NHL Game Summary - Detroit at Dallas

Final Score: Detroit 3 - Dallas 0

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Daniel Cleary had a goal and an assist, while Dominik Hasek stopped 22 shots in recording his 78th career shutout, as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Dallas Stars, 3-0, at American Airlines Center.

Brian Rafalski and Johan Franzen also scored for Detroit, which has won two straight and six of its last seven games.

Mike Smith had a solid game, stopping 20 of 22 shots for the Stars, who have dropped four in a row after winning the previous four contests.

Ahead 1-0, Detroit got an insurance goal from Cleary with just under 10 minutes remaining in the contest. Valtteri Filppula skated the puck down the left wing boards and into the Dallas zone, fighting through a check by Trevor Daley. Cleary, who was following the play, picked up the loose disc and fired a bad angle shot from the left side that got through the pads of Smith, increasing the Wings lead to 2-0.

Dallas, however continued getting scoring opportunities, but Hasek, who recorded his second shutout of the season, had the answers.

After the Stars pulled the goaltender in favor of the extra attacker in the closing minutes, Franzen scored into the empty net with 20 ticks left to account for the 3-0 final score.

"Not that many penalties today," Cleary said. "It was one of those games to grind it out on the cycle and when we had the opportunity we capitalized and (Hasek) was good"

The Red Wings got off to a quick start, tallying 3:44 into the opening stanza. After a scrum for the loose puck behind the Dallas net, Cleary won the battle and centered to Rafalski, who was pinching from the point and beat Smith with a wrist shot from the low slot, giving Detroit the early lead.

With the Wings clinging to a 1-0 advantage and on the power play midway through the second period, Mike Modano and Brendan Morrow broke out on a shorthanded two-on-one. Modano skated down the right side and slid it over to Morrow, but Hasek made a nice sliding save to preserve the Wings' slim lead.

Hasek continued to make acrobatic saves throughout the second period, stopping 10 total shots as Detroit maintained a one-goal lead heading into the intermission. Smith was equally impressive between the pipes for Dallas, stopping all 13 shots faced in the frame.

"Losing is frustrating and that goes without saying," Stars head coach Dave Tippett said about the team's four-game losing skid. "Were in a tough spot right now and we need to keep pounding away and get out of this."
