St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Manny Legace made 27 saves for his third shutout of the season as the St. Louis Blues held on for a 1-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at Scottrade Center.
Lee Stempniak scored the lone goal on assists from Ryan Johnson and Jay McKee for the Blues, who have won two of their last three.
Michael Leighton gave up the only goal on 19 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped four of their last five games.
This was the first time Carolina played in St. Louis since October 15, 2002, a game St. Louis won by a 2-1 score.
The only goal of the game came 12:49 into the first period. Johnson blasted a shot from the right point that Leighton made the save on. The puck went behind the net where McKee picked it up and centered it to Stempniak, who one-timed it between the pads of Leighton.
Legace made 10 saves in the first period.
In the second period, the teams combined for just 13 shots, seven from Carolina.
The Hurricanes again had 10 shots on net in the third period and pulled Leighton in the final minute, but were unable to get any past Legace.
