Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Corey Perry posted a goal and an assist, as the Anaheim Ducks edged the Chicago Blackhawks, 2-1, at the Honda Center.
Chris Kunitz also scored and Jonas Hiller made 20 saves for the Ducks, who have won six of their last eight games and earned at least one point in seven of nine.
"It was huge," said Perry, commenting on the quick start. "We knew what their lineup was like. We had to get out there and get on them early and try to take the winds out of their sails. It was a good start."
Patrick Sharp recorded the lone goal and Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 30-of-32 shots for Chicago, which are winless in four straight following a four-game win streak.
Chicago was outscored 15-5 during its three-game road trip.
"It's tough when you know you were in the game and you had some chances," said Chicago forward Patrick Kane. "Their goaltender played unbelievable tonight. We played pretty good and they're the Stanley Cup champions. We only lost to them by a goal with half our lineup out."
Anaheim scored in the opening minute and last minute of the first period to build a 2-0 advantage.
Sean O'Donnell's slap shot ricocheted off the end boards and Perry, positioned to the left of Khabibulin, knocked in the rebound 16 seconds into the game.
Then, with the Ducks enjoying a power play, Kunitz redirected Perry's backhander through the right arm and torso of Khabibulin with 47 seconds left.
Chicago cut the deficit in half when Sharp, crashing the net, slipped the puck behind Hiller at 1:56 of the second. It was Sharp's career-high 21st goal of the season. Last season, Sharp scored 20 goals in 80 games.
Khabibulin was stellar in the third period, turning aside all 12 shots fired in his direction, which allowed his team to stay in the game.
There was a flurry of activity around Hiller in the dying seconds, but the Ducks were able to survive.
