(Sports Network) - A poor road outing has all but nullified Edmonton's fast start to the season. The Oilers will try to get on track this evening with a home test at Rexall Place against the Boston Bruins, a club they haven't defeated in over eight years.
The Oilers flew out of the gate, winning each of their first four contests of the season while netting at least three goals a game in that span and 13 tallies in all.
However, a winless three-game road trip has slowed the club down, as Edmonton was outscored 13-4 on the trip.
The Oilers, who are 2-0-0 at home so far this year, better solve their road woes quickly, as they next play seven straight as the visitor following tonight's home test.
Edmonton ended its swing with a 6-3 loss in Vancouver on Saturday. Mathieu Garon struggled in net, allowing six goals on 30 shots faced.
Robert Nilsson had a goal and an assist in the loss, while Steve Staios and Denis Grebeshkov also found the back of the net.
If the Oilers are to halt this skid, they will have to do so against a Boston club that has won its last six against Edmonton. The Bruins, who have won two straight in Edmonton, haven't lost to the Oilers since October 17, 2000.
Boston enters this contest having stopped a three-game losing streak on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Boston. Milan Lucic posted his first-career hat trick, recording his third marker with 1:41 left in the test in what was the game-winner.
Lucic also had an assist, while David Krejci and Stephane Yelle also lit the lamp. Manny Fernandez made 28 saves in the win.
Boston hits the road for three straight, which will give the club time to fix a marking error on its home ice. The format of Saturday's game was altered due to incorrect faceoff markings at one end of the home ice.
The Bruins issued a statement about 40 minutes before the game that said "the change in format is occurring due to incorrect markings on the West End of the TD Banknorth Garden ice. The two face-off dots are 24 feet from the goal line - four feet longer than NHL specifications."
The Bruins are 2-1-2 on the road so far this year.
