Vancouver Canucks (2-1-0) at Detroit Red Wings (2-1-0), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings will shoot for their third straight win when they welcome the Vancouver Canucks to Joe Louis Arena this evening.

After losing their season opener versus Toronto, the Red Wings have won consecutive road games against the Ottawa Senators and Carolina Panthers. In Monday's 3-1 triumph at Carolina, Tomas Holmstrom posted a power-play goal in the second period to put Detroit ahead and Ty Conklin made 27 saves. Conklin signed with the Red Wings in July and was on the bench the first two games behind veteran netminder Chris Osgood.

Nicklas Lidstrom also lit the lamp on the power play and Henrik Zetterberg added an empty-net goal for Detroit, which was honored by President Bush at the White House on Tuesday for winning the Cup last season.

Detroit will also host the red-hot New York Rangers at the Joe on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Canucks will resume a six-game road trip on Thursday and had a two-game winning streak to start the season come to an end with Monday's 5-1 setback at Washington.

Alexander Edler registered the lone goal for the Canucks and goaltender Roberto Luongo was roughed up in net. Luongo managed 20 saves and gave up all five goals before Curtis Sanford turned away 10 shots in relief.

Vancouver will also visit Buffalo, Chicago and Columbus on the current trek.

The Red Wings went 3-1 against the Canucks last season and have won six of the previous 10 matchups in the series.

Vancouver has lost two in a row in the Motor City.
