Philadelphia Flyers (0-2-1) at Colorado Avalanche (0-3-0), 9 p.m.

(Sports Network) - Few teams are off to a worst start this season than the Philadelphia Flyers. The Colorado Avalanche are one of them.

The Flyers and Avs -- both still winless on the season -- square off tonight at Colorado's Pepsi Center.

While both clubs have failed to post a victory through their first three games, the Flyers managed to get a point last time out, losing to Pittsburgh, 3-2, in overtime on Tuesday.

The Avalanche, meanwhile, have lost each of their first three games in regulation, all by one goal. That includes a 5-4 setback to Calgary on Tuesday.

Ryan Smyth scored a goal and assisted on another for the Avalanche, who have dropped three straight one-goal games to begin the season. It marks their worst start to a season since opening with four consecutive losses in 1998-99.

Paul Stastny finished with two assists, including the 100th helper of his career. Cody McLeod, John-Michael Liles and Ben Guite also scored in the win, while Peter Budaj allowed five goals on 35 shots.

Budaj has a 4.38 goals against average through his first three games, and backup Andrew Raycroft will make his first career start with the Avalanche tonight. Raycroft, who spent the previous two seasons in Toronto, is 5-4-0 with a 2.33 GAA and one tie in 11 career tests versus the Flyers.

Prior to tonight's game, the Avalanche will honor defenseman Adam Foote for playing in his 1,000th career NHL game last Sunday in Edmonton. Tuesday was his 814th career regular-season game with the Colorado franchise, moving him past Michel Goulet for second most in team history.

Simon Gagne and Jeff Carter both scored in Tuesday's loss to Pittsburgh in what was a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference finals. The Penguins won that set in five games.

Gagne has scored in each of his first three games after missing all but 25 contests a year ago due to concussion problems. He had scored 40-plus goals in each of his previous two seasons before last year.

Antero Niittymaki made his first start for Philadelphia this season and allowed three goals on 28 shots in defeat. He suffered an overtime loss in his only career start versus Colorado, allowing four goals in a January 14, 2006 meeting.

Martin Biron, meanwhile, has a 6.35 GAA through his first two games and is 5-3-0 with a 2.49 GAA in eight career starts against Colorado.

Tonight's game is the second of three straight on the road for the Flyers, who play in San Jose on Saturday.

Colorado has won four straight over the Flyers, who haven't beaten the club since December 27, 2002. That was also their last victory in Denver.
