(5) Dallas Stars (0-1) at (1) Detroit Red Wings (1-0), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The top-seeded Detroit Red Wings will try to take a two games to none lead in the Western Conference finals tonight, when they welcome the Dallas Stars for Game 2 at Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings came out with a strong performance in the opener of this best- of-seven series on Thursday. Detroit notched the 4-1 home victory in Game 1 and is now 6-0 as the hosts in this postseason.

Detroit had a superb 29-9-3 record in Motown during the regular season, while Dallas was 22-14-5 on the road during the regular season.

This series will shift to Texas for Games 3 and 4 and the Stars are scheduled to host the third game on Monday night at American Airlines Center.

Tomas Holmstrom posted a goal and an assist to help this year's Presidents' Trophy winners take the 1-0 series' lead.

Brian Rafalski, Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Red Wings. Nicklas Lidstrom and Niklas Kronwall both had two assists, while Chris Osgood ran his playoff record this year to 7-0 by stopping 20-of-21 shots.

The Red Wings have won every game with Osgood in goal this postseason and the 35-year-old has a 1.46 goals-against average and .939 save percentage in those outings. Osgood helped Detroit win a Stanley Cup title as the team's starting goaltender in the 1998 postseason.

Franzen, meanwhile, continued his torrid scoring pace, as he notched a goal for the fifth consecutive game to give him 10 tallies over that stretch. The Swedish centerman has 12 goals and 15 points in the postseason and 27 tallies in his last 27 games dating back to the regular season.

Brenden Morrow lit the lamp for the fifth-seeded Stars, while Marty Turco was victimized for four goals on 31 shots. Morrow has scored goals in three straight games for Dallas.

Turco has struggled mightily in his career against Detroit, going just 2-10-5 with a 2.88 GAA and .897 save percentage in 18 regular-season games against the Red Wings.

Dallas forward Stu Barnes has sat out the last four games with concussion-like symptoms and is questionable for this evening's tilt as well. Stars defenseman Philippe Boucher hasn't played since suffering a hip injury in Game 3 against Anaheim and is doubtful tonight.

Detroit eliminated Nashville in six games during the opening round and then swept an injury-riddled Colorado squad in the conference semifinals to reach the conference finals for a second straight year. The Red Wings lost to eventual Stanley Cup champion Anaheim in six, hard-fought games last season.

The Stars are in the conference finals for the first time since 2000. Dallas ousted Anaheim in six games in the first round and raced out to a 3-0 series lead against San Jose in the conference semifinals before moving on with a 2-1 victory in the fourth overtime of Game 6.

The Red Wings won three of the four regular-season meetings with Dallas this season. The Stars found goals hard to come by in those contests, as they managed to score just five times in the four tests.

Detroit has won all three of its postseason meetings with the Stars franchise. The teams last met in the 1998 conference finals when the Red Wings beat Dallas in six games en route to their second straight Stanley Cup crown.
