(6) Philadelphia Flyers (3-3) at (3) Washington Capitals (3-3), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals will try to complete a startling comeback in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals tonight, when they host the Philadelphia Flyers in a decisive Game 7 at the Verizon Center.

The Flyers held a three games to one lead in this series, but Washington has notched two straight victories to tie the set at 3-3. The third-seeded Capitals, champions of the Southeast Division, now have a chance to close out the opening-round series on their home ice.

Washington has come back from a 3-1 deficit once before against the Flyers, as it won the final three games to shock Philadelphia in the 1988 Patrick Division semifinals.

The Flyers are 6-6 all-time in Game 7s, including a 1-3 mark in road games. Philadelphia's only road victory in a seventh and deciding game was against Pittsburgh in the 1989 Patrick Division finals.

The Caps have played five Game 7s in club history and their only victory came against Philadelphia in 1988.

Washington was 23-15-3 as the hosts during the regular season, while the Flyers had a 21-15-5 record on the road.

Alex Ovechkin had his best game of the postseason in Game 6, as he scored twice in the third period, including the game-winner, to lift Washington to Monday's 4-2 victory in Philadelphia.

Ovechkin, who had been limited to just one goal and four assists in the series coming into the game, came alive in the third period as he scored on a breakaway and the power play to help the Capitals force Game 7.

The Russian superstar is playing in his first-ever playoff series after leading the NHL this season with 65 goals and 112 points.

Alexander Semin had a goal and an assist while Nicklas Backstrom also scored for the Capitals.

Cristobal Huet stopped 33 shots in the win for Washington, which is looking for its first playoff-series victory since defeating Buffalo in the 1998 Eastern Conference finals.

Mike Richards and Danny Briere each had a goal for the sixth-seeded Flyers, who have not won a playoff series since beating Toronto in the 2004 Eastern Conference semifinals. Martin Biron made 36 saves in the loss.

The Flyers played their first game without forward Mike Knuble, who suffered a series-ending injury when he tore his hamstring in Game 5. Knuble had two goals and three assists in five games.

Washington is in the postseason for the first time since 2003 after winning its first Southeast Division title since 2001.

Philadelphia is back in the playoffs after suffering through the worst season in franchise history a year ago. The 2006-07 edition of the Orange & Black not only missed out on the postseason, but finished last in the NHL for the first time in club history. The Flyers' 54 points was the lowest-ever total for the team, but the 2007-08 club rebounded with a 95-point season.

The Capitals have won two of the three all-time playoff series against the Flyers. Washington posted series' wins over Philly in 1984 and 1988, but the Flyers won the last postseason meeting between the clubs in 1989.
