(1) Detroit Red Wings (3-2) at (8) Nashville Predators (2-3), 3 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The top-seeded Detroit Red Wings will try to close out their opening-round series against the Predators when they visit Nashville this afternoon for Game 6 at the Sommet Center.

The Red Wings began this best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinal series with two straight wins on their home ice, but allowed Nashville to tie it with victories in Games 3 and 4 in the Music City.

Detroit regained a lead in the series on Friday night in Motown, as it edged the Predators in an overtime win. The Game 5 victory moved the Red Wings just one win away from clinching a berth in the conference semifinals.

Johan Franzen's breakaway goal 1:48 into overtime boosted Detroit to the 2-1 win over Nashville. The Red Wings overcame an incredible effort from Predators goaltender Dan Ellis to grab the 3-2 series' lead.

Chris Osgood, starting in place of a struggling Dominik Hasek, stopped 20 shots for the top-seeded Red Wings. Valtteri Filppula scored in the first period for Detroit, which has won all three of its games at Joe Louis Arena in this set.

Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom played in his 197th career postseason game, moving him past Steve Yzerman into first for most career playoff contests in Red Wings history.

The results have been similar thus far to the 2004 conference quarterfinals. That series was tied after four games, before the Red Wings won the next two against the Predators. Nashville is 0-3 all-time when facing elimination.

Ellis did all he could to keep the eighth-seeded Predators in the game, as he finished with 52 saves, but Detroit scored on its first shot of overtime.

Nashville played without two key players on Friday as centermen Jason Arnott (flu) and David Legwand (foot) missed the game. Arnott, who tied for the team lead in points during the regular season, is questionable for today's contest, as is Legwand.

The Predators forced the extra session on Radek Bonk's goal with 43.4 seconds left in regulation, but faltered right away.

Niklas Kronvall picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and fed Franzen, who approached the net and used a backhander to get the puck by a sliding Ellis. The disc barely trickled by the netminder's left skate and tucked inside the right post.

Nashville remained without a road win in its playoff history, falling to 0-10.

The Predators were 23-14-4 as the home team during the regular season, while Detroit posted a solid 25-12-4 mark as the visiting club.

The Red Wings were the winners of this year's Presidents' Trophy as the league's best team in the regular season. Detroit has won the award in three of the last four years and six times overall.

Detroit also won the Central Division for a seventh straight season and hit the 100-point mark for a record-tying eighth campaign in a row.

The Red Wings won the series against the Predators this year, going 5-3-0 against them in the regular season. Detroit and Nashville's only other meeting in the postseason came in the 2004 series.
