(3) Washington Capitals (1-2) at (6) Philadelphia Flyers (2-1), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers will try to take a three games to one lead in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals tonight, when they host the third-seeded Washington Capitals at Wachovia Center for Game 4 of a best-of- seven series.

The Capitals won the first game of the series on Friday, as they erased a two- goal deficit after 40 minutes to notch a 5-4 win on their home ice. However, Philadelphia was able to earn as split in D.C. by posting a 2-0 triumph Sunday at the Verizon Center.

Philadelphia then took its first lead of the series on Tuesday, as it posted a 6-3 triumph over the visiting Caps.

Danny Briere had two goals and an assist as the Flyers doubled up Washington in Game 3. Vaclav Prospal had three assists while Mike Richards added a goal and an assist for the Flyers.

Briere and Prospal have been a potent combination for Philly in this series, as the linemates have combined for 12 points in three games. Briere leads the Flyers with six goals and has also added two assists, while Prospal has two goals and a team-high four helpers.

Martin Biron stopped 16 shots in the win just one day after he and his wife celebrated the birth of their third child.

Mike Green had a goal and an assist while Eric Fehr and Brooks Laich each scored for the Capitals, who had won four straight games in Philadelphia coming into the contest. Cristobal Huet was charged with five goals on 32 shots in the loss.

Meanwhile, Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin, who led the NHL in goals (65) and points (112) during the regular season, was kept under wraps once again. The 22-year-old made a big splash with the game-winning goal and an assist in the series opener, but has recorded just one assist in two games since.

This is the first-ever playoff series for the Russian left wing.

The Flyers did lose their top defenseman to injury in Game 3, as Kimmo Timonen left the game in the second period and did not return. However, Timonen, who suffered an unspecified upper body injury while being checked into the net, is expected to play in tonight's game.

Philadelphia defenseman Jaroslav Modry may miss some time due to personal reasons. Modry's father passed away Tuesday evening after a battle with colon cancer. The Flyers defenseman is expected to return to the Czech Republic in a few days for the funeral, but could still play in tonight's contest.

Washington is in the postseason for the first time since 2003 after winning its first Southeast Division title since 2001. The Capitals haven't won a playoff series since making a run to the Stanley Cup finals in 1998.

Philadelphia is back in the playoffs after suffering through the worst season in franchise history a year ago. The 2006-07 edition of the Orange & Black not only missed out on the postseason, but finished last in the NHL for the first time in club history. The Flyers' 54 points was the lowest-ever total for the team, but the 2007-08 club rebounded with a 95-point season.

The Capitals have won two of the three all-time playoff series against the Flyers. Washington posted series' wins over Philly in 1984 and 1988, but the Flyers won the last postseason meeting between the clubs in 1989.

Philadelphia won the regular-season series against the Caps, posting a slight 2-1-1 edge.

The Flyers were 21-14-6 as the host this season, while Washington turned in a 20-16-5 record on the road.

After this evening's test, the series will head back to Washington for Saturday's Game 5 meeting at the Verizon Center.
