(Sports Network) - The Nashville Predators have a chance to even the best-of- seven Western Conference quarterfinals this evening, when they welcome the top-seeded Detroit Red Wings for Game 4 at the Sommet Center.
The Red Wings won the first two tests of this series on their home ice, grinding out victories of 3-1 and 4-2 in Games 1 and 2, respectively.
However, Nashville erased a one-goal deficit in the third period of Monday's Game 3 victory to make it a 2-1 series. Ryan Suter and Jason Arnott scored nine seconds apart in the third period as the Predators rallied for the 5-3 win in the Music City.
Detroit held a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, but the Predators scored twice to even the score at the end of 40 minutes. The Red Wings went ahead again just 40 seconds into the third period, but Nashville closed the game with three unanswered goals.
Alexander Radulov and Suter each had a goal and an assist while David Legwand and Martin Erat each scored for the Predators. Dan Ellis finished the game with 23 saves to earn his first-ever playoff victory.
Legwand was playing in his first game for Nashville since suffering a bone bruise in his left foot on March 3. The centerman's goal on Monday was his second career playoff tally in 17 games.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Radulov now has two goals and an assist in this series, tying him with defenseman Marek Zidlicky for the team lead in points. The Russian winger has seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in seven career postseason tests.
Jiri Hudler had a goal and an assist while Dominik Hasek was charged with four goals on 28 shots for the Red Wings. Kris Draper and Pavel Datsyuk also scored in the loss.
The Red Wings were the winners of this year's Presidents' Trophy as the league's best team in the regular season. Detroit has won the award in three of the last four years and six times overall.
Detroit also won the Central Division for a seventh straight season and hit the 100-point mark for a record-tying eighth campaign in a row.
The Red Wings won the series against the Predators this year, going 5-3-0 against them in the regular season. Detroit and Nashville have met once in the postseason, as the Red Wings defeated the Preds in six games during the 2004 conference quarterfinals.
Nashville posted a solid 23-14-4 record in the Music City this year, while the Red Wings were an impressive 25-12-4 as the visiting team.
This series will head back to Detroit for Game 5 on Friday night at Joe Louis Arena.
