(Sports Network) - The third-seeded Minnesota Wild will try to grab a three games to one lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinals tonight, when they visit the Colorado Avalanche for Game 4 at the Pepsi Center.
Every game in this series and five straight playoff meetings between these clubs overall have been decided by a 3-2 overtime result. Minnesota won Games 6 and 7 of a Western quarterfinal in 2003 and the Wild have taken two of three OT games by that score in this set.
Colorado notched the OT triumph in Game 1 at Minnesota, but the Wild have notched two straight to take a lead in this series.
Pierre-Marc Bouchard's goal 11:58 into overtime sent Minnesota to victory in Monday's Game 3 meeting in Denver.
Bouchard accepted a pass from Brian Rolston in the low slot on the right wing, crossed over to the left side and ripped a wrister over the glove of Jose Theodore, who appeared to be partially screened when the shot was released.
Rolston also scored, as did Mikko Koivu for the Wild, while Niklas Backstrom made 44 saves.
Joe Sakic picked up a goal and one assist for the sixth-seeded Avalanche. Andrew Brunette lit the lamp, while Theodore was solid in the loss with 36 stops.
The Wild hold a lead in this series despite the fact that they haven't received a single point from star right winger Marian Gaborik in the three games. Gaborik, who led Minnesota in goals (42) and points (83) this year, has 12 shots on goal in the series.
Despite the gap in the conference seeding between the Wild and Avs, Colorado actually finished just three points behind Minnesota for second place in the always competitive Northwest Division.
Overall, the Wild went 5-2-1 versus the Avalanche during the 2007-08 regular season.
This is the second-ever playoff series between these clubs. Minnesota won the only other postseason meeting, shocking the Avs in the opening round of the 2003 postseason.
The Wild are in the playoffs for the third straight year and they are also in as a division champion for the first-time ever. Colorado is back after a one- year absence last season that ended a string of 11 straight postseason appearances.
Colorado was one of the best home teams in the NHL this season, as it posted a 27-12-2 record at the Pepsi Center. The Wild were just 19-17-5 away from St. Paul.
This series will shift back to Minnesota for Game 5, which is scheduled for Thursday at Xcel Energy Center.
