(Sports Network) - The Vancouver Canucks will try to snap out of their recent funk and get back on the right track to the postseason tonight, as they welcome the Calgary Flames to General Motors Place.
The Canucks have lost four in a row and are now tied with Nashville and Edmonton for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
The Predators, who play today in Detroit, currently hold the tiebreaker with one more win on the year than Vancouver. Both the Canucks and Nashville have four games left in the regular season, while Edmonton only has two.
The Flames and Colorado have 90 points each and are tied for sixth place in the West. Calgary has a game in hand over the Avalanche, who play today in Minnesota against the Wild. The Flames are also three points behind the Wild for the Northwest Division lead and have played one less game than Minnesota.
Vancouver has lost its last three games on the road, but will begin a regular season-ending, four-game homestand tonight. The Canucks are 20-12-5 in British Columbia this season and have won three of their last four at GM Place.
The Canucks were handed their most recent loss Friday in Minnesota, as Niklas Backstrom made 28 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season in the 4-0 win at Xcel Energy Center.
Roberto Luongo allowed four goals on 21 shots before he was lifted for the second consecutive game in favor of Curtis Sanford, who finished with nine saves for Vancouver.
Luongo has given up 14 goals while absorbing each of the losses during Vancouver's four-game slide.
It certainly hasn't helped Luongo's cause that the Canucks have been playing without defensemen Mattias Ohlund (knee), Aaron Miller (shoulder) and Lukas Krajicek (shoulder). All three players are out for at least the rest of the regular season, although Ohlund could return if Vancouver makes the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Flames lost for the second time in three games on Saturday, as they were handed a 2-1 setback by visiting Edmonton. Dustin Penner notched the game-winning goal midway through the third period to lead the Oilers to the win at the Saddledome.
Matthew Lombardi provided the lone offense for the Flames, while Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 19-of-21 shots.
The Canucks are 4-2 against Calgary this year, but the Flames have won the last two meetings. Vancouver has still taken eight of 12 overall in the series and the Flames have dropped two straight, four of five and six of their last eight in British Columbia.
The teams will close out this year's series and their regular seasons on April 5 in Vancouver.
