(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks will try to extend their lead in the Pacific Division tonight, as they take on the playoff hopeful Edmonton Oilers at HP Pavilion.
The Sharks have used a franchise-record 11-game winning streak to take over command of the Pacific Division. Their 4-1 victory on Friday over St. Louis gave them 92 points on the season, two better than second-place Anaheim and three up on Dallas.
San Jose, though, has played three fewer games than the Stars and Ducks and neither of those clubs will skate today.
Against the Blues, Milan Michalek and Brian Campbell registered a goal and an assist each. Jeremy Roenick also scored and Patrick Marleau converted a penalty shot attempt in a four-goal first frame for San Jose, which hasn't lost since February 20 in New Jersey.
Joe Thornton posted two assists to give him an NHL-high 64 on the season, while Evgeni Nabokov made 20 saves to post his league-leading 41st win. The San Jose netminder also played in his career-high 68th game of the season, surpassing the 67 he appeared in during the 2001-02 campaign.
Only three of San Jose's last 11 wins have come at home, where the Sharks are 17-13-5 this season. The club will play in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
The Oilers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 5-2 victory over Phoenix on Saturday. Joni Pitkanen, Fernando Pisani and Marty Reasoner each had a goal and an assist in the victory.
With the win, the Oilers stayed seven points behind Vancouver and Calgary for the final two playoff spots in the Western Conference. Edmonton has 10 games left in the regular season.
Ales Hemsky and Kyle Brodziak also tallied for the Oilers, who have won four of their last five games, while rookie Andrew Cogliano had two assists in the win.
Edmonton plays the final test of a three-game road trip tonight and is 15-17-4 as the visiting club this season. The Oilers begin a four-game homestand on Tuesday versus Phoenix.
Edmonton has won two of three versus the Sharks this year, one in a shootout, and has claimed victory in four of the last seven in the series. The two clubs wrap their four-game season series tonight.
