Dallas Stars (42-25-5) at Detroit Red Wings (46-18-6), 7:30 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The Red Wings have quickly put last month's miseries behind them. Detroit will aim to stay undefeated in March when it hosts the Dallas Stars tonight at Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings were dominating the Western Conference and NHL for most of the season before a 4-8-2 February helped a few teams close the gap a bit.

However, Detroit has won its first four games in March and lead San Jose by eight points for the best mark in the West. The Red Wings also have a 20-point edge over Nashville for first place in the Central Division with 12 games to play.

Detroit won its fourth straight on Tuesday, downing Chicago 3-1. Pavel Datsyuk scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and Chris Osgood made 19 saves in the win. Datsyuk now has five goals and three assists over a seven-game point streak.

Kirk Maltby scored and Johan Franzen also tallied in his fourth straight game for the Red Wings. Detroit remains without forwards Daniel Cleary (broken jaw) and Tomas Holmstrom (groin), but saw defenseman Chris Chelios return to the lineup after missing six games with a knee injury.

Cleary remains out indefinitely, while Holmstrom and Darren McCarty (sore ribs) are both doubtful for tonight.

Detroit is 3-0-0 so far on a five-game homestand that concludes with a test versus Nashville on Saturday. The Red Wings are 24-8-2 as the home team this season.

Dallas was one of the teams that inched closer to Detroit in February, but the Stars went on to lose three in a row before Sunday's 3-0 victory over Colorado. Marty Turco saved all 19 shots that he faced for his third shutout of the season and 33rd career blanking, lifting his club over the Avalanche in the back end of a home-and-home set.

Brad Richards scored a goal and had as assist for the Stars. It was Richards' first goal in five games since Dallas acquired him on February 26 from Tampa Bay, but he does have seven assists in that span as well.

Stu Barnes and Stephane Robidas each lit the lamp for Dallas in the win. The Stars will try to regain first place in the Pacific Division tonight. Dallas fell a point back of San Jose after the Sharks' downed Nashville on Tuesday.

San Jose is idle tonight, and the Stars have played two more games than the Sharks.

Dallas is 20-13-3 on the road this year and begin a three-game homestand on Saturday versus Vancouver.

Detroit and Dallas will wrap their four-game season series tonight, and the Red Wings have won two of three so far. Detroit has also won six of the past eight in the series and three of the last four as the host.
