(Sports Network) - After failing to set a new franchise record for consecutive wins, the Dallas Stars will try to pad their edge in the Pacific Division tonight as they take on the Anaheim Ducks at the Honda Center.
Dallas won seven straight for the fourth time in club history before losing a 5-2 test in Phoenix on Thursday night. Radim Vrbata had a goal and two assists to lead the Coyotes in the back end of a home-and-home set.
Dallas posted a 2-1 victory on Monday for its record-tying win.
Matt Niskanen and Jussi Jokinen scored for Dallas, which lost for the first time since January 24.
Marty Turco allowed four goals on 26 shots in the loss. The setback snapped his personal five-game win streak and he allowed more than two goals for the first time in five starts. Turco is 3-1-0 with a 1.76 goals-against average in four starts this season against the Ducks, including a shutout in Anaheim on November 5.
Due to a recent winning streak by Anaheim, Dallas only leads the Ducks by four points in the Pacific Division. The Stars, with 75 points on the season, do hold the second spot in the Western Conference, which is fronted by Detroit and its 87 points.
The Stars' test last night was the first of back-to-back on the road, where Dallas has won five of its last six and is 17-12-3 on the season.
After enduring a franchise-record road trip, the Ducks return home tonight to begin a season-long seven-game residency.
Anaheim's trip didn't get off to a good start, as the club lost the first four games -- pushing its overall losing streak to six games -- before getting Teemu Selanne back. Since the forwards return, the Ducks have gone 5-0-0 to end with an above .500 mark on the swing.
Anaheim is one win shy of its season-high win streak, set from January 7-18 of this season.
Selanne scored his first goal since returning to the ice on February 5, lighting the lamp in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Colorado. Samuel Pahlsson netted the game-winning goal, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 32 saves.
Selanne, who led defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim with 48 goals last year, found the back of the net for the first time since April 7 of last season and tied Paul Kariya for most points in team history (669). Tonight will mark his first home test this season since his return to the ice.
Ryan Getzlaf posted his team-leading 42nd assist in the win, also notching the 100th helper of his career.
While Giguere has been outstanding over his last games, going 4-0-1 with a 0.79 goals-against average and two shutouts, he is just 1-4-0 in five starts against Dallas this season with a 3.64 GAA.
Anaheim has won seven of its last eight at home and is 16-7-4 at the Honda Center this year. The Ducks will also host Calgary twice, Colorado, St. Louis, Chicago and Ottawa on this residency.
Dallas holds a 4-1-0 edge against Anaheim this season. However, the Stars have split two tests at the Honda Center this year and have lost four of their last five there.
Dallas has won seven of nine, nine of 14 and 10 of its last 16 overall versus Anaheim. The clubs will meet twice more in March this year.
