(Sports Network) - The New Jersey Devils will aim for their third consecutive victory tonight, when they visit the Buffalo Sabres for a battle at HSBC Arena.
The Devils ended a three-game losing streak with Saturday's 6-3 home win over the Los Angeles Kings. New Jersey then made it two straight with Monday's thrilling win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Zach Parise scored just 37 seconds into overtime to propel New Jersey to the 4-3 win over the Penguins in a huge Atlantic Division battle at the Prudential Center.
The Devils scored twice in the third period to tie the game and grabbed the win just 37 seconds into OT. Parise had the puck at the right point and flicked a soft wrister that deflected off of a Penguin player and went into the net for the win.
Parise and Elias each finished with a goal and two assists while Martin Brodeur made 31 saves for the Devils.
New Jersey heads into tonight's action tied with Pittsburgh for second place in the Atlantic Division with 63 points apiece. Philadelphia leads the division with 65 points after posting a win in Atlanta on Tuesday.
The Devils ended their five-game homestand with a 2-3-0 record after the victory against the Pens. After this evening's road tilt, New Jersey will return for another four-game stint in Newark. The Devils are 14-10-3 as the visitor this season and 16-10-0 at home.
Buffalo, meanwhile, has posted victories in four of their last five games and are coming off Tuesday's win in Boston. The Sabres ended a seven-game road trip in Beantown, as they finished the swing with a 4-2-1 record.
Daniel Paille scored a pair of goals to lift the Sabres past the Bruins, 4-2, at TD Banknorth Garden. Toni Lydman and Thomas Vanek added a goal each for Buffalo.
Ryan Miller was back between the pipes for Buffalo after leaving his last start with a lower body injury. He ended with 30 saves in a winning effort.
Tonight's contest will kick off a three-game homestand for the Sabres, who are 12-8-2 as the host this season. Buffalo, which has dropped four of its last five home tilts, will also welcome Boston and Florida during the residency.
New Jersey is 3-0 against the Sabres this year and is going for the season sweep of Buffalo tonight. The Devils have won five of six and seven of the last nine meetings against Buffalo. However, seven straight contests in the series have been decided by just one goal.
The Devils have also won three of their last four contests in Buffalo.
