(Sports Network) - The San Jose Sharks will try to regain some momentum heading into the All-Star break tonight, as they host the St. Louis Blues at HP Pavilion.
San Jose lost a season-high four straight games before knocking off Chicago on Tuesday, 3-2. Christian Ehrhoff posted a goal and an assist in the win.
Sandis Ozolinsh and Joe Pavelski also tallied for the Sharks, who have won nine straight and 10 of the last 11 against Chicago. San Jose also prevented itself from dropping five in a row for the first time since a 10-game skid from November 5-30, 2005.
The Sharks currently sit third in the Pacific Division, two points back of first-place Dallas.
Evgeni Nabokov made 28 saves to record his 26th win of the season while ending a personal rough stretch of his own. Nabokov had started San Jose's first 43 games of the season before getting a day off on January 13.
In his first three games after that break, he allowed 15 goals in three straight losses for a 6.03 goals-against average. He still has a very solid 2.19 GAA, sixth best in the NHL.
The Sharks wrap a four-game homestand tonight and are 10-11-4 in San Jose this year. The club has still won four of its last six at HP Pavilion. Following the break, San Jose plays two straight on the road, starting Tuesday in Edmonton.
St. Louis lost its sixth straight game on Wednesday, falling to Vancouver, 3-2 in a shootout. The Blues are 0-4-2 over their skid.
After three scoreless rounds in Vancouver, Daniel Sedin moved in on Manny Legace, then sold the backhand before pulling the puck back to the forehand and tucking it into the net. Roberto Luongo made a glove save on Keith Tkachuk to preserve the win.
D.J. King and Brad Boyes tallied for the Blues, who have been outscored 30-15 during their season-high slide. Legace made 28 saves.
The All-Star is 0-2-2 with a 3.44 goals-against average over his last five starts in a stretch that includes him leaving one game early due to a right arm injury.
St. Louis hasn't lost seven games in a row since an epic 11-game slide from November 25-December 17 of last year.
The Blues' last two losses have come on their current four-game road trip that concludes on Tuesday in Toronto after the break. St. Louis is 8-10-7 as the visiting club this year.
San Jose blanked the Blues, 1-0, in St. Louis on December 28, with Nabokov stopping 26 shots for his fifth shutout of the season. The Sharks have won two straight and six of their last seven against the Blues, and have won three of the last five in the series as the host.
