New York Islanders (22-18-5) at New Jersey Devils (26-15-3), 7 p.m.

(Sports Network) - The New Jersey Devils will try to regain sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division tonight, when they welcome the New York Islanders to the Prudential Center.

The Devils have won three straight and five of their last six games, but have still been unable to keep the hard-charging Pittsburgh Penguins at bay. With a win over the New York Rangers on Monday, the Pens were able to tie New Jersey atop the Atlantic with 55 points apiece.

New Jersey's most recent victory came in dramatic fashion Saturday evening in Buffalo. Zach Parise and Patrik Elias scored in the shootout to help New Jersey to the 3-2 win and the Devils also sent the Sabres to a franchise- record ninth straight loss.

Both Parise and Elias managed to fake shots against Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller before tucking the puck past him. Parise scored on the forehand, while Elias slid a backhand shot between the netminder's pads to win it for the Devils.

Paul Martin and Dave Clarkson scored in regulation, and Martin Brodeur -- who was perfect in the shootout against two Buffalo skaters -- finished with 21 saves as the Devils improved to 19-5-1 in their last 25 games.

Tonight's tilt marks the start of a three-game homestand for the Devils, who are 13-5-0 at the Prudential Center since opening their new building in Newark earlier this season. Jersey has won five straight at the Rock.

The Islanders have dropped five of their last seven games and are coming off Tuesday's loss to the visiting Montreal Canadiens. Tomas Plekanec scored two goals to lead the Habs to the 3-1 triumph at Nassau Coliseum.

Richard Park scored the lone goal for the Islanders, who saw their two-game win streak halted. Rick DiPietro allowed two goals on 21 shots in the losing effort.

The game marked just the third time in the last 13 games that the Islanders failed to register a point (7-3-3).

The Islanders have won five in a row against New Jersey and are 4-0 in this year's season series. New York has also taken five of its last seven in New Jersey and won its only game at the Devils' new building.
