(Sports Network) - The Calgary Flames will try to halt a four-game losing streak tonight, when they visit the Minnesota Wild for a Northwest Division battle at Xcel Energy Center.
The Flames and Wild are both in the mix for first place in the highly competitive Northwest. Minnesota and Vancouver are tied for the top spot with 54 points apiece, Colorado is one point back in third and Calgary is fourth with 52 points.
Calgary's slide continued Tuesday night in Nashville, as Chris Mason made 22 saves for his third shutout of the season and the Predators rolled to a 3-0 victory over the Flames.
Miikka Kiprusoff allowed three goals on 26 shots before being pulled in the third period for Curtis McElhinney, who stopped all 12 shots he faced for the Flames.
Before the game, it was reported by the Calgary Sun that Calgary has signed veteran goaltender Curtis Joseph with an official announcement expected soon. The deal is pending league approval and Joseph passing a physical.
Tonight's contest marks the finale of a three-game road trip for the Flames, who are 12-9-1 as the visiting club this season. Calgary will kick off a four- game homestand Friday night against Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Minnesota has won three straight contests and the Wild's latest triumph came Sunday against the visiting Phoenix Coyotes. Marian Gaborik and Pavol Demitra each had a goal and an assist to lift Minnesota to the 4-1 decision at XEC.
James Sheppard and Eric Belanger also scored for the Wild, while Josh Harding made 26 saves in the win.
The Wild, who are 15-7-0 as the host team this season, are playing the middle portion of a three-game homestand tonight. Minnesota has won three of four in St. Paul and will complete the current residency against Anaheim on Friday.
Calgary has won two of three meetings with the Wild this season, but Minnesota's victory came in the only contest in St. Paul. The Flames have taken four of the last five encounters overall, but the Wild have won four of six on their home ice.
