(Sports Network) - Chad Pennington will make his debut as a member of the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night, when the former New York Jet and his new team travel to meet the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second preseason tilt for both clubs.

Pennington began training camp as a candidate for the Jets starting QB job, but the team's first-round pick in the 2000 Draft was cut last Thursday after the club obtained Brett Favre the previous day.

Miami quickly took Pennington off the market, signing him to a two-year contract last Friday and placing him in a competition with veteran Josh McCown, rookie Chad Henne, and second-year-pro John Beck.

Dolphins executive vice president for football operations Bill Parcells was general manager when the Jets drafted Pennington in 2000, and the Marshall product is widely expected to secure the starting job in Miami.

In the Dolphins' preseason opener, a 17-6 loss to the Buccaneers last Saturday, McCown (5-of-8, 35 yards), Henne (5-of-10, 67 yards), and Beck (5- of-9, 45 yards) all failed to lead touchdown drives.

Also worth viewing for Miami will be the running back exploits of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, both of whom come off of season-ending injuries suffered a year ago. Brown carried three times for four yards against the Bucs, while Williams had five attempts totaling 31 yards.

Other players to watch for the Dolphins on Saturday include rookie free agent kicker Dan Carpenter, who was given the starting job when veteran Jay Feely was released earlier this week.

Linebackers Charlie Anderson (hamstring) and Joey Porter (back), defensive end Vonnie Holliday (hamstring) and cornerback Michael Lehan (ankle) are among the Miami players uncertain to see action against the Jaguars due to injury.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, will be attempting to build off last Saturday's 20-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Troubled wide receiver Matt Jones, who earlier this week pled not guilty to felony cocaine possession, was among the stars in the Jacksonville win. The former first-round pick out of Arkansas recorded team-highs with three catches and 37 yards in the triumph.

Quarterback David Garrard (4-of-10 passing, 44 yards), rushed for 22 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run, in the victory.

On the injury front for the Jaguars, wideouts Reggie Williams (knee) and Jerry Porter (hamstring) remain sidelined, and could both miss the entire preseason.

Another receiver, ex-Viking Troy Williamson, is expected to make his debut as a Jaguar on Saturday.

First-round draft choice and defensive end Derrick Harvey (Florida) has yet to report to training camp due to a contract dispute.

Jacksonville leads the all-time preseason series with Miami, 4-2, but was a 18-17 road loser when the teams squared off prior to last season.
