NCAA Game Summary - Oklahoma vs. Missouri

Final Score: Oklahoma 38 - Missouri 17

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Sam Bradford threw for two touchdowns and Chris Brown ran for two other scores, as No. 9 Oklahoma beat top-ranked Missouri, 38-17, in the Big 12 championship game, leaving the opponents for the title contest of the Bowl Championship Series up to voters and the computers on Sunday.

The Tigers (11-2) entered the game ranked No. 1 in the BCS and in line for a shot to play in the national title game January 7 in New Orleans. However, that all went up in smoke as the Sooners beat Missouri for the sixth straight time and for the 18th time in the last 19 meetings. Oklahoma (11-2) also completed a season sweep of the Tigers, also winning 41-31, in Norman on October 13.

West Virginia was ranked second in the BCS, but was shocked at home by Pittsburgh, 13-9, Saturday night. That leaves the BCS picture jumbled going into Sunday, when the final standings will be released, determining which team will play for the national championship at the Superdome.

Ohio State, Georgia and Kansas were third through fifth, respectively in the BCS, and all of their seasons finished without a conference championship, with the exception of the Buckeyes, who won the Big Ten. Ohio State has an inside track on going back to the national title game for a second consecutive year after losing to Florida last season.

Virginia Tech, which came into Saturday sixth in the BCS, may also have a shot at going to the national title game following a 30-16 victory over Boston College in the ACC championship contest Saturday. LSU, which beat Tennessee, 21-14, in the SEC title game Saturday, was seventh, while Pac-10 winner Southern California was eighth, right in front of the Sooners.

Oklahoma's only losses this season came by three points at Colorado on September 29 and by a touchdown at Texas Tech two weeks ago. Now they're headed to a BCS contest after their fifth Big 12 championship since 2000.

Bradford completed 18-of-26 passes for 209 yards, while Allen Patrick ran for 88 yards for the Sooners.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops made his case for the Sooners to play for the national title.

"Well, we just played very well for the second time against the No. 1 team in the country that you all voted," Stoops said. "So hopefully people when they vote that matters to them, not just who was placed where and then moved someone up. It's who plays the best right now, who is beating who and beating a quality opponent and where did you beat them at."

Stoops admitted it was awkward having to do some politicking over the next day to make the case for getting to play in New Orleans on January 7.

"I don't think any of us like it," Stoops said. "I don't like having to sit here and what some people who don't like you would say -- I don't like to sit here and boast and try to put it this way and explain the game. But so I think all of us coaches are that way, that you are in an awkward position. So I'll have one more try at it. No one else played the No. 1 team in the country tonight either."

Chase Daniel ran for one score for the Tigers, who knocked off unbeaten Kansas a week ago to move to No. 1 in the nation for the first time since 1960, but had their six-game winning streak broken and were denied their first conference title since 1969.

Daniel went 23-of-39 for 219 yards and was picked off once.

"I would like to think if you're 11-2 it's somewhat of a success," Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said. "I think what happens is certainly we, our players are very disappointed. That's what they should be. They're competitors."

Patrick gave the Sooners the lead for good at 21-14 with a four-yard touchdown run with 4:04 left in the third quarter. Patrick had a big 40-yard run during the 80-yard drive, and finished it off on 3rd-and-goal with a run to the left side.

Daniel was then picked off by Curtis Lofton and the return gave the Sooners the ball at the Missouri seven. Two plays later, Bradford found Jermaine Gresham from five yards away for a score and a two-touchdown lead.

Jeff Wolfert kicked a 32-yard field goal two plays into the fourth quarter, but the Sooners ate up more than four minutes off the clock on the ensuing drive, culminated by Bradford's four-yard TD pass down the middle to Joe Jon Finley.

Missouri punted on its next possession, and the Sooners got the ball back with 9:55 remaining and used more than six minutes before Garret Hartley nailed a 26-yard field goal with less than four minutes to go.

Missouri struck first on a 28-yard field goal by Wolfert with 3:19 left in the opening quarter, but the Sooners came right back with a three-yard TD run by Brown, who plunged in untouched into the end zone from the left side on the first play of the second quarter.

Wolfert nailed an 18-yard field goal just over five minutes later after Daniel was denied the end zone on a run up the middle.

However, Brown continued to hurt the Tigers, scoring on a two-yard run to the right side with 3:41 left in the half for a 14-6 Sooners advantage. Bradford converted a key 3rd-and-8 with an 11-yard strike to Malcolm Kelly before Brown scored on a third down.

Missouri tied the game with 14 seconds left in the half, as Daniel scored on a four-yard run, and Jeremy Maclin threw to Martin Rucker alone in the end zone off a double reverse for the two-point conversion to tie the game.
