NCAA Game Summary - Kentucky at Vanderbilt

Final Score: Kentucky 27 - Vanderbilt 20

Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Andre Woodson threw for 222 yards and a touchdown, and Rafael Little ran for 70 yards and a score, as 24th-ranked Kentucky downed Vanderbilt, 27-20, in Southeastern Conference action.

Derrick Locke ran for 50 yards and the go-ahead score, while Steve Johnson caught two passes for 88 yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats (7-3, 3-3 SEC), who came off an idle weekend to down the Commodores. The Wildcats had entered the game losers in three of their last four games.

Mackenzi Adams was solid under center for Vanderbilt (5-5, 2-5) in a losing effort. The signal-caller completed 20-of-31 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another touchdown.

Cassen Jackson-Garrison ran for 83 yards and Jeff Jennings added 70 on the ground for the Commodores in defeat. Earl Bennett was Vanderbilt's leading receiver with eight catches for 69 yards.

The final quarter was a wild affair in this conference showdown.

Vanderbilt kicker Bryant Hahnfeldt misfired from 33 yards away early in the fourth, but the Commodores bounced back to tie the game. An 11-play, 82-yard drive ended with Adams scampering up the middle from out of the shotgun for a seven-yard score and a 20-20 tie with 7:31 left.

It didn't take long for Kentucky to regain the lead. Keenan Burton returned the kickoff to the Wildcats 49-yard line, and the offense quickly moved down the field through the air. Woodson found Jacob Tamme down the seam for 34 yards and Locke scored on a stretch play from four yards out to push Kentucky in front, 27-20.

Vanderbilt methodically moved the ball on its next possession, but the drive was hurt by a sack on 2nd-and-1 from inside the Kentucky 20, and the march eventually ended on downs. Kentucky took over and ran out the clock to seal the win.

In a low-scoring first quarter, the Wildcats found a way to get on the board first.

After a well-positioned Tim Masthay 34-yard punt put the Commodores at their own one-yard line, the Kentucky defense held and gave the offense great field position. Lones Seiber converted a field goal from 38 yards away for a 3-0 Wildcats lead, with 1:38 remaining in the first stanza.

Vanderbilt's next drive resulted in a missed 44-yard field goal, but Woodson coughed up the football on Kentucky's ensuing series, eventually leading to a Vanderbilt touchdown. Theo Horrocks recovered Woodson's fumble, and the Commodores marched the final 27 yards to paydirt with Adams finding Sean Walker for a 14-yard score with 8:46 left in the half.

Kentucky answered right back with a six-play, 80-yard march that finished in the end zone. Woodson navigated the field and found an open Johnson for a 55- yard touchdown and the 10-7 edge with 7:12 left.

Vanderbilt came right back with its own 80-yard scoring drive. Adams ran for 12 yards on the march then showed off his arm with a 30-yard TD pass to Jake Bradford. The extra point failed, but Vanderbilt still held a 13-10 lead with 4:39 to go in the first half.

Kentucky, backed up near its own end zone, went to a hurry-up, spread formation and drove 54 yards in seven plays to the tying field goal. Seiber had just enough leg from 48 yards away to tie the game at the half.

The Wildcats took the opening drive of the second half 78 yards straight into the end zone. Woodson found Johnson wide open down the seam for 33 yards, moving the ball to the Commodores 28-yard line. Maurice Grinter eventually plowed into the end zone from one yard out for a 20-13 lead with 9:56 left in the third quarter.
