NCAA Game Summary - Akron at Bowling Green

Final Score: Akron 20 - Bowling Green 44

Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Tyler Sheehan threw for 268 yards and a pair of touchdowns in leading the Bowling Green Falcons to a 44-20 win against the Akron Zips in Mid-American Conference play at Perry Stadium.

Sheehan converted 26-of-36 passing on the night for the Falcons (5-4, 3-2 MAC) as they won for the second time in the last three outings. Anthony Turner added a team-high 104 yards rushing and one touchdown, not to mention throwing for another TD to begin the night's scoring.

The Zips (3-6, 1-3) were paced by Carlton Jackson, who connected on 14-of-31 passing for 192 yards and a touchdown, but he was also intercepted twice, with one of those being returned for a touchdown in the team's third straight setback.

Bowling Green needed less than three minutes to drive 82 yards on the game's opening possession, culminating with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Turner to Chris Wright.

Akron responded in the first quarter with a 20-yard field goal by Igor Iveljic. Four minutes later it was Turner again for the Falcons, this time taking the ball himself into the end zone from seven yards out to extend BGSU's advantage to 14-3.

A 32-yard field goal by Iveljic at the 10:31 mark of the second period cut the deficit to eight points, but once again the Falcons were quick to respond as Sheehan found Marques Parks with a 23-yard scoring strike.

For the first of his three successful field goals on the night, Sinisa Vrvilo closed the first half for the Falcons with a 31-yard conversion, making the score 24-6 in favor of the home team.

P.J. Mahone pushed the Bowling Green lead to 25 points when he intercepted a pass and raced 51 yards the other way for a touchdown less than two minutes into the third frame. The Falcons tacked on a 15-yard TD reception by Jermiah Kelley and a 28-yard field goal by Vrvilo in the period to boost their margin to 41-6 entering the fourth.

Needing less than a minute on the subsequent drive, Jackson hit Jabari Arthur with a 42-yard TD strike early in the final period, with Alex Allen's three- yard touchdown run at the 2:48 mark signaling the final points of the contest, after Vrvilo knocked through a 25-yard field goal for BGSU in the lopsided decision.

The Falcons scored on all five of their opportunities inside the red zone, compared to just 3-of-6 for the visitors. Bowling Green, which controlled the ball for more than nine minutes in the final quarter, also generated a season- high 517 yards of total offense.
