Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Sean Glennon threw for two touchdowns and ran in another, leading No. 11 Virginia Tech past Georgia Tech, 27-3, in a key ACC Coastal Division showdown.
Glennon ended 22-of-32 for 296 yards for the Hokies (7-2, 4-1 ACC), who were coming off a tough 14-10 loss to Boston College. Josh Morgan and Justin Harper had a TD reception each, while Branden Ore paced the rushing attack with 86 yards on 19 carries.
Taylor Bennett was intercepted four times -- twice by Victor Harris -- and finished with just 157 yards through the air for Georgia Tech (5-4, 2-4), which had won two straight coming in. James Johnson had seven receptions for 136 yards in a losing effort.
Georgia Tech struck first with a 24-yard field goal by Travis Bell early in the first quarter.
Jud Dunleavy countered with a 28-yarder on the Hokies' next possession, however, and Virginia Tech outscored the Jackets 14-0 in the second quarter to assume command.
Just over a minute into the second, Glennon found pay dirt from two yards out to give the visitors a 10-3 edge.
Bennett was picked off on Georgia Tech's next two drives, the latter leading to seven points.
After Cam Martin came up with the interception around midfield, Glennon and Harper connected for a 40-yard strike on the very next play that gave the Hokies a 17-3 lead at the break.
The rout continued in the third thanks to an athletic play by Morgan. On 3rd- and-15 in the late stages of the quarter, Morgan leapt over a defender to haul in Glennon's pass along the right sideline, then sprinted into the end zone for a 71-yard score.
Dunleavy tacked on a 28-yard field goal early in the fourth for a 27-3 final.
