NCAA Game Summary - Oklahoma at Iowa State

Final Score: Oklahoma 17 - Iowa State 7

Ames, IA (Sports Network) - D.J. Wolfe intercepted a deflected pass in the end zone with under seven minutes to play, and despite trailing for the game's first 36-plus minutes, fourth-ranked Oklahoma persevered for a 17-7 victory over Iowa State.

Chris Brown scored both of Oklahoma's touchdowns, rushing for 50 yards on 13 carries. DeMarco Murray led the Sooners (7-1, 3-1 Big 12) with 59 yards on the ground, while Allen Patrick carried the ball 13 times for 57 yards.

Sam Bradford finished 16-of-28 for 183 yards and one interception for the Sooners, who have won 11 straight games against the Cyclones.

"I didn't have a great speech at halftime," Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops admitted. "If (we're) going to be a championship team, we have to respond in difficult situations. It's hard to have a ton of energy when you turn the ball over, even when they aren't perfect."

"Our defense really kept us in the game in the first half," Bradford said. "We were really fortunate to only be down seven at half and win. I was a little off today. I think it was a combination of things that we were slightly off in the first half."

Bret Meyer completed 19-of-31 passes for 174 yards and the costly interception, while Jason Scales managed just 46 yards on 22 carries with Iowa State's (1-7, 0-4) lone score.

The game's deciding drive was a 14-play, 80-yard marathon spanning both the third and fourth quarters. Brown capped the march with a tough four-yard run for the 14-7 lead with 13:50 remaining.

Garrett Hartley's 43-yard field goal sealed the victory with 1:34 to go.

The Cyclones swarmed to the football on defense, leading to the game's first score on the opposite side of the ball. Alvin Bowen knocked the ball loose from Patrick and Rashawn Parker recovered at the Sooners 35-yard line.

A 15-yard pass interference penalty began the march, which was kept alive by Meyer's 13- yard completion to R.J. Sumrall on third down. Scales plowed into the end zone from two yards out for the 7-0 edge with 4:55 to play in the period.

The lead could have been larger, but Scales was stuffed on 4th-and-1 from the Sooners nine-yard line late in the half. That possession came on the heels of Bradford's interception into the hands of Allen Bell.

Iowa State's defense confused and suffocated Bradford and the OU offense over the first 30 minutes. Bradford completed just 8-of-16 for 72 yards and Patrick was the leading rusher with only 29 yards.

It took over 36 game minutes, but the Sooners finally got on the scoreboard in the third stanza. An 11-play, 77-yard drive featured an early 3rd-and-10 conversion from Bradford to Malcolm Kelly, and Brown reached the end zone from eight yards out on 3rd-and-1 to tie the game with 8:35 left in the period.

"I think we, as a team, as a group, tried to correct what we didn't do well last week," said Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik. "We went back to work and fixed things. I have to give our football team credit today. I think we played well today. I think you can't pin today's loss on one or two things that happened. We were down in the red zone and we didn't score."
