NCAA Game Summary - Mississippi State at West Virginia

Final Score: Miss State 13 - West Virginia 38

Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) - Patrick White threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for another score as ninth-ranked West Virginia beat Mississippi State, 38-13, in an interconference tilt at Milan Puskar Stadium.

White finished with 89 yards rushing and 61 yards through the air. Steve Slaton ran for 127 yards on 23 carries with a touchdown and caught four passes for 36 yards.

West Virginia (6-1) won its second consecutive game since losing 21-13 at South Florida.

Mississippi State's Wesley Carroll threw for 169 yards on 18-of-35 attempts, and Anthony Dixon ran for 61 yards and a touchdown.

The Bulldogs (4-4) have lost two straight and three of their last four contests.

West Virginia exploded in the first quarter, building a 28-0 lead. On the first play from scrimmage, White eluded the defense and scampered 64 yards to the end zone. On their next possession, the Mountaineers moved the ball meticulously down the field, capping the 12-play, 88-yard drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass by White to Owen Schmitt.

Derek Pegues returned the ensuing kickoff 51 yards to the Mountaineers 49, giving the Bulldogs excellent field position. Unfortunately, Dixon fumbled the ball and Marc Magro returned it to the Bulldogs' 16. Three plays later, Darius Reynaud hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from White.

Following another three-and-out for the Bulldogs, Slaton finished a five-play drive with a 26-yard touchdown run. The Mountaineers scored touchdowns on their first four possessions, including the last three in a 5:26 span.

After a 42-yard field goal by West Virginia's Pat McAfee in the early stages of the second quarter, Mississippi State converted on a 4th-and-goal as Dixon burrowed his way into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown.

Mississippi State opened the second half with an impressive 13-play, 58-yard drive, culminating with a 3-yard touchdown run by Christian Ducre to make it 31-13. The Bulldogs missed a two-point conversion.

The Mountaineers struck again early in the fourth quarter. Jarrett Brown faked the handoff, rolled to his right, and threw a strike to Reynaud for a 13-yard score, his second touchdown reception of the game.
