Oxford, OH (Sports Network) - Austin Sykes ran for two scores to go along with a career-high 124 yards in leading the Miami-Ohio RedHawks past the Bowling Green Falcons, 47-14, in a Mid-American Conference battle at Yager Stadium.
Miami-Ohio (4-3, 3-0 MAC) remained undefeated in conference play thanks to 499 yards of total offense, 262 of which came in the running game. In addition to Sykes' big day running the ball, quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh passed for 237 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-24 tosses.
Bowling Green (3-3, 1-1) did not get much done offensively as it was held to 25 rushing yards on 26 attempts. Tyler Sheehan and Anthony Glaud combined to complete 19-of-32 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown. The lone bright spot for the Falcons came on the defensive side of the ball, where John Haneline posted 18 tackles.
The RedHawks came out scoring early and often, putting the first 23 points on the board. Sykes opened the scoring with a 21-yard run less than five minutes into the first quarter.
Eugene Harris followed with a six-yard scamper to the end zone, and a safety against Bowling Green ended the first quarter scoring with Miami-Ohio ahead 16-0.
Jamel Miller punched in Miami-Ohio's third rushing touchdown of the day, from a yard out, with just over five minutes left in the half.
Bowling Green finally got on the board thanks to a nine-yard run from Dan Macon with just under two minutes remaining in the half.
The high would not last long, as Harris took a Raudabaugh pass 73 yards for a touchdown on the RedHawks' next possession, ending the first half's scoring.
The lone score of the third quarter was Sykes' two yard plunge early in the frame.
Following a 30-yard field goal from Nathan Parseghian in the fourth quarter, Thomas Merriweather rumbled three yards for a touchdown, giving the RedHawks a 47-7 lead.
With a minute remaining, the Falcons made the score a little more respectable, as Glaud hooked up with Marques Parks for a 21-yard scoring strike.
The RedHawks' defense came up big, holding Bowling Green to only 232 total yards while adding six sacks. The defense was led by Joey Hudson, who finished the game with eight tackles, a forced fumble and an interception.
