Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - Five turnovers and four touchdowns from quarterback Tyler Sheehan keyed the Bowling Green Falcons' 41-21 victory over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
Sheehan finished the game with 270 passing yards on 31-of-42 accuracy, while throwing three touchdowns and running for another for Bowling Green (3-1). Sheehan's big day overshadowed the opportunistic effort from the Falcons' defense. The unit forced five turnovers, four of which were interceptions of Hilltoppers quarterback K.J. Black. Corey Partridge led all receivers with nine grabs for 80 yards and a score.
Though the Hilltoppers (3-2) were thwarted on the scoreboard, they put up 301 yards rushing, led by Tyrell Hayden with 121 yards on 18 carries. Black also broke the century mark by rushing for 107 yards, but it was his four turnovers in the passing game that will be remembered. Andre Lewis led the defense with 13 tackles.
The Tyler Sheehan Show began at the 5:03 mark of the first quarter, with his one-yard rush into the end zone.
Following teammate's Sinisa Vrvilo's 28-yard field goal, Sheehan connected with Freddie Barnes on a 5-yard score. The points gave the Falcons a 17-0 lead heading into the lock room at halftime.
Sheehan continued the onslaught with a three-yard pass to Partridge on the first drive of the second half, capping off a quick, seven-play, 67-yard drive.
Western Kentucky finally got on the board with a five-yard scamper from Hayden with 8:46 remaining in the third quarter.
The setback didn't phase the Falcons offense as they went on to score 17 straight points, beginning with a 15-yard touchdown catch by Marques Parks from Sheehan.
Anthony Turner ended Sheehan's touchdown streak by pounding one into the end zone from three yards out.
Vrvilo ended Bowling Green's scoring with a 26-yard field goal, putting the game way out of reach at 41-7 with 7:13 left in the game.
The Hilltoppers scored twice with four minutes left to make the score seem respectable. Black hit Wenquel Graves for a three-yard touchdown reception and Marell Booker punched one in from the five-yard line in the final minute.
Though Bowling Green only managed 12 more total offensive yards than Western Kentucky, the plus-five turnover differential proved too much for the Hilltoppers to overcome.
