Refusing to go away, UAB cut into Tulsa's lead with a 52-yard field goal from Waters.

Tulsa scored in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter on a one-yard touchdown plunge by Smith, to make the score 38-16.

UAB stormed back late in the fourth quarter, as Hunt found Forrest from 10- yards out to make the score 38-23.

Hunt led his team back down the field minutes later, throwing a four-yard touchdown strike to Mario Wright, making the score 38-30. However, Hunt and the Blazers failed to get any closer, as Tulsa controlled the clock in the final minutes.

Following the loss, UAB coach Neil Callaway commented on his team's inability to take advantage of its scoring opportunities.

"I was disappointed on both sides of the ball. I do not think we executed what we were trying to do. I think there were a lot of opportunities offensively to score a lot of points that we did not take advantage of. Defensively, we had trouble getting lined up and getting people in the right spot. I was proud of the fact that we were competing at the end, but if we cannot play smarter than what we played on both sides of the ball, we will struggle."
