NCAA Game Summary - Michigan State at Wisconsin

Final Score: Michigan State 34 - Wisconsin 37

Madison, WI (Sports Network) - P.J. Hill ran for 155 yards on 34 carries with two touchdowns and Travis Beckum caught 10 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown as ninth-ranked Wisconsin defeated Michigan State, 37-34, at Camp Randall Stadium.

Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Donovan completed 17-of-24 passes for 247 yards with two touchdowns for the Badgers (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten). He also threw two interceptions, one of which led to a Spartan score, but the Badgers extended the nation's longest winning streak with their 14th straight triumph.

"It was another example of a four-quarter game," Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema said. "Playing in the Big Ten, you've got to be able to do those type of things. We didn't do everything right to get things done towards the end of the game. We've got to clean up some things on our offense, defense and special teams."

Michigan State (4-1, 0-1) was led by quarterback Brian Hoyer, who connected on 22-of-36 attempts for two touchdowns, but was sacked five times. Jehuu Caulcrick scored two touchdowns while gaining 73 yards on 17 rushes. His teammate Javon Ringer ran 10 times for 145 yards. The Spartans' Devin Thomas caught four passes for 111 yards and one score.

With the game tied, Lance Smith's 28-yard run to the Michigan State 15 led to a 22-yard field goal by Taylor Mehlhaff with 6:15 left in the fourth quarter to give the Badgers a 37-34 lead.

Michigan State had a chance to tie the game, but Brett Swenson missed a 53- yard field goal attempt with 3:23 remaining.

"Brett had been pretty good all day," Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said. "He made them in practice. We had the wind. I felt he was good from 48 yards out in pre-game."

On their next possession the Spartans were unable to get closer than the Wisconsin 38-yard line and failed on 4th-and-2 to give back the ball to Wisconsin, which ran the clock out.

The Badgers scored on their opening drive when Hill scored on a five-yard run.

Michigan State tied the game at 5:57 on a two-yard run by Caulcrick. The Spartans then took the lead with 2:23 left in the first quarter on a two-yard run by Caulcrick.

Wisconsin completed a 91-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown pass from Donovan to Beckum with 12:49 left in the second quarter. On the Badgers next series, Donovan connected with Kyle Jefferson on a 64-yard scoring pass with 8:35 left. Jefferson left the game late in the second quarter with a head injury. He finished with two catches for 66 yards

The Spartans needed just one play to even the score when Thomas went 80 yards on a Hoyer swing-pass with 8:22 remaining in the second quarter.

Mehlhaff hit a 35-yard field goal for the Badgers with 1:51 left in the first half. The half closed on a 47-yard field goal by Mehlhaff as the Badgers took a 27-21 halftime lead.

Swenson recorded a 19-yard field goal with 12:13 remaining in the third quarter to pull his team within three points.

Hill notched his second touchdown of the game from one-yard out with 9:13 left in the third.

The third quarter ended with Wisconsin leading 34-24.

The Spartans got to within three with 13:54 left in the contest when Hoyer found Mark Dell in the end zone on a three-yard pass.

David Gilreath's 42-yard kickoff return was negated when Travis Key intercepted a Wisconsin pass and returned it to the Badgers' 35-yard line. Swenson then tied the game at 34-34 with a 35-yard field goal with 12:14 remaining.
