NCAA Game Summary - Florida Atlantic at Kentucky

Final Score: Fla Atlantic 17 - Kentucky 45

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Andre' Woodson completed 26-of-33 passes for 301 yards and five touchdowns as 14th-ranked Kentucky cruised past Florida Atlantic, 45-17.

Keenan Burton had six catches for 100 yards and a touchdown while Dicky Lyons had eight catches for 76 yards and two scores for the Wildcats (5-0), who have earned their highest national ranking in 30 years. Kentucky tailback Rafael Little added 112 yards on the ground.

"We just tried to execute with what they gave us," said Woodson. "We didn't want to go for the big play, and really wanted to try and go underneath and take the short routes. Some of the bigger plays came when we caught them in a man-to-man and we were able to take advantage."

Rusty Smith completed 15-of-25 passes for 184 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Owls (3-2), who were coming off a 30-2 win over North Texas. Charles Pierre rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

"They did almost everything we expected them to do," said Smith. "They didn't run a whole lot of blitzes. The front four did a very, very good job. They didn't have to blitz a whole lot today."

Kentucky was all over Florida Atlantic on its opening possession, marching 65 yards on 10 plays. Woodson capped the drive when he found Lyons in the end zone on 3rd-and-7 from the Owls' 14-yard line.

Florida Atlantic answered with Warley Leroy's 29-yard field goal, but Woodson hooked up with Steve Johnson for a 27-yard score early in the second quarter to make it 14-3.

Smith hit Cortez Gent for a 20-yard touchdown to bring Florida Atlantic within 14-10, but that was as close as the Owls would get.

On Kentucky's ensuing possession, Woodson one again teamed with Lyons -- this time for a 22-yard scoring strike that made it 21-10 with 5:37 left in the half. Woodson then connected with Burton for a 34-yard TD that pushed Kentucky's advantage to 28-10 with 1:27 left before halftime.

Lones Seiber missed on a 44-yard field goal right before the break, but it didn't matter as Woodson found John Conner for a nine-yard score in the third quarter.

After Seiber's 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, Pierre's one-yard score brought Florida Atlantic within 38-17.

Micah Johnson's 17-yard interception return for a touchdown capped the scoring.

"I was in a similar situation during the Arkansas game, but I couldn't come up with the ball then," said Johnson. "Any time you trail a route and follow one of your defensive players, you know a play will be made on the ball. I was ready and was expecting a play to be made."
