NCAA Game Summary - Illinois at Indiana

Final Score: Illinois 27 - Indiana 14

Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - Rashard Mendenhall erupted for 214 rushing yards to lead the Illinois Fighting Illini to a 27-14 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers in Big Ten action from Memorial Stadium.

Mendenhall, who was nursing a sore ankle all week, caught one touchdown pass and scored another on the ground for the Fighting Illini (3-1, 1-0 Big Ten). Isiah Williams threw two touchdown passes, but also tossed a pair of interceptions and tallied only 98 passing yards for the game.

For Indiana (3-1, 0-1), Kellen Lewis went 26-of-51 passing, as he finished with 263 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He registered 58 yards on 17 carries, though his rushing totals were hindered by seven sacks.

Jason Reda gave Illinois a 6-0 lead on a pair of first-quarter field goals (45, 38).

Early in the second quarter, the Fighting Illini marched 80 yards on 12 plays to set up a two-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Michael Hoomanawanui.

James Hardy got the Hoosiers on the board with a seven-yard touchdown catch from Lewis with just over two minutes remaining in the half.

But the Fighting Illini responded with an eight-play drive, resulting in a 15- yard touchdown pass from Williams to Mendenhall.

After a scoreless third quarter, Mendenhall gave Illinois a 27-7 lead on a five-yard touchdown run with 12:45 to play in the game.

The Hoosiers could muster only one more score, a 30-yard touchdown pass from Lewis to James Bailey midway through the fourth quarter.

The Fighting Illini took advantage of several Indiana miscues, as they recorded three fumble recoveries and an interception.
