NCAA Game Summary - Florida at Ole Miss

Final Score: Florida 30 - Ole Miss 24

Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - Tim Tebow threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for two scores, as third-ranked Florida held on for a 30-24 victory over Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Tebow completed 20-of-34 passes for 261 yards and ran for 166 yards on 27 carries for the Gators (4-0, 2-0 SEC), who played on the road for the first time this season.

Percy Harvin was Tebow's favorite target, catching 11 passes for 121 yards with a score. The Gators racked up 507 total yards with a balanced attack, rushing for 246 and passing for 261.

"They played very well against us on defense," said Florida head coach Urban Meyer. "They forced us to show immaturity and make some mistakes. They played hard. I admire the way they do things. It was a tough win."

Seth Adams threw for 302 yards with a pair of touchdowns and one interception on 18-of-31 passing for Ole Miss (1-3, 0-2), which has lost three in a row after a season-opening victory at Memphis.

"Obviously we are disappointed with the loss," said Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron. "But we put ourselves in a position to win. We came back and fought. We gave us ourselves a chance on the last drive, if we had just made some plays. We just didn't get it done. It was a good effort by the team. We made some improvement after a very tough week. We showed some leadership. I am proud of that. Florida is a good team. They are talented. We are a couple players short."

Adams connected on a pair of touchdown passes late in the third quarter to pull the Rebels within 27-24 and had his team in position early in the fourth before throwing an interception.

Tony Joiner picked off the pass at the Florida 39-yard line with 12:53 to play and Tebow took nearly six minutes off the clock before Joey Ijjas booted a 25- yard field goal to make it a six-point game with just under five minutes left.

The Rebels hurt themselves on the next series with a pair of penalties and a pass on 4th-and-11 came up three yards short, as they turned it over on downs with 3:01 remaining.

Florida was able to run out the rest of the clock.

Brandon James returned the opening kickoff 55 yards for Florida to the Ole Miss 32, but the Gators were unable to take advantage and Ijjas missed a 42- yard field goal.

After a trade of punts, the Rebels drove to the Florida 22 and settled for a 40-yard field goal from Joshua Shene for a 3-0 lead with just over five minutes to play in the first quarter.

The Gators followed with a 77-yard drive for a touchdown. Tebow converted 4th- and-2 from the Ole Miss 32 with a 13-yard pass to Harvin on the final play of the opening period, then finished the 10-play series with a 19-yard scoring pass to Harvin.

Marshay Green returned the ensuing kickoff 42 yards to Ole Miss 47 and the Rebels drove far enough for Shene to connect on a 32-yard field goal to make it 7-6 game with just under 12 minutes to play in the half.

Florida was forced to start its next drive from the two-yard line and Tebow engineered a 98-yard march for another score. He ran three times for 19 yards on the first three plays to allow the Gators to escape the shadow of their own goal line, then finished the 14-play series with a nine-yard touchdown run.

Shene missed a 48-yard field goal try with 1:21 to play in the half and the Gators responded with a quick march deep into Ole Miss territory before time expired with the ball on the Rebel 28.

Florida stopped Ole Miss on the first series of the second half, then scored on its first possession. Tebow capped a 10-play, 70-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown run to make it a 21-6 game.

The Rebels used a pair of big plays to answer. A 15-yard run by Bruce Hall was followed by a 51-yard pass from Adams to Michael Hicks, setting up a first down at the Florida five. Ole Miss, though, again had to settle for a Shene field goal, this time from 22 yards away to pull within 12.

Tebow followed with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Louis Murphy, but the point after failed to leave the Gators ahead 27-9.

Ole Miss, however, stormed back with a pair of touchdowns before the end of the period.

Adams found Shay Hodge with a 19-yard scoring strike with 2:47 left in the third and the Ole Miss defense forced a quick punt. The Rebels were pinned at their own four-yard line, but Hall broke free for 19 yards on the first play and Adams threw a perfect deep strike to Mike Wallace for a 77-yard touchdown on the next play. The two-point conversion pass made it a 27-24 game with just seven seconds left in the third.
