Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Freshman quarterback Tyrod Taylor threw for 287 yards and ran for the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter, as 18th- ranked Virginia Tech pulled away in the second half to down Ohio, 28-7.

Kenny Lewis rushed for 62 yards and two touchdowns while Branden Ore added 82 yards on the ground and one score for the Hokies (2-1), who rebounded from a 48-7 loss to LSU and handed head coach Frank Beamer the 200th win of his career.

Virginia Tech also extended its home winning streak against non-conference opponents to 27 games.

Ohio quarterback Brad Bower completed just 9-of-16 passes for 70 yard and Kalvin McRae rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries for the Bobcats (2-1). McRae was also Ohio's leading receiver with six catches for 26 yards.

With the score tied 7-7 midway through the third quarter, Virginia Tech put together a 54-yard, nine-play scoring drive and took the lead on Taylor's six- yard touchdown run.

The Hokies dodged a serious bullet on the second drive of the half when Taylor fell on an Ore fumble.

Ore then scored from a yard out in the fourth quarter to make it a two- possession game before Lewis put the game with a 44-yard score.

Taylor hooked up with Josh Morgan for a 59-yard reception that brought Virginia Tech down to the Ohio 10-yard line. However, just one play later, the Hokies turned the ball over.

Eddie Royal then muffed a Virginia punt later in the first quarter and the Bobcats recovered on the Virginia Tech 26-yard line. The Hokies looked as if they'd hold Ohio to a field goal attempt, but on 3rd-and-17, a 15-yard Virginia Tech penalty gave the Bobcats new life.

McRae carried the ball four straight times, eventually scoring from four yards out to give Ohio the lead.

Virginia Tech turned the ball over on downs in Ohio territory on its next possession but eventually tied the game on Lewis' 13-yard touchdown run with just under six minutes left in the first half.
