NCAA Game Summary - Texas-El Paso at Texas Tech

Final Score: Texas-El Paso 31 - Texas Tech 45

Lubbock, TX (Sports Network) - Graham Harrell threw for 484 yards and four touchdowns, as the Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the Texas-El Paso Miners, 45-31, in a non-conference tilt from Jones SBC Stadium.

Michael Crabtree hauled in 15 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns for Texas Tech (2-0), while Danny Amendola added 12 receptions for 101 yards and a score.

Trevor Vittatoe threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns for UTEP (1-1). Joe West caught five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Marcus Thomas led the ground game with 85 yards and two scores in the loss.

Texas Tech jumped out to an early 7-0 lead following a one-yard run by Kobey Lewis.

However, UTEP dominated the rest of the quarter, beginning with an eight-yard touchdown pass from Vittatoe to Jeff Moturi midway through the frame.

The Miners went up 14-7 less than two minutes later when Vittatoe hit West with a 41-yard scoring strike.

A two-yard touchdown run by Thomas in the final seconds of the quarter put the Miners ahead 21-7.

The Red Raiders cut into their deficit early in the second frame when Harrell connected with Crabtree on a six-yard touchdown pass.

Midway through the second quarter the Miners pushed their lead to 28-14 on a three-yard touchdown run.

A 45-yard field goal by Texas Tech's Alex Trlica cut the Red Raiders deficit to 28-17 as the two teams entered the break.

Harrell came out firing early in the third quarter, hooking up with Crabtree on a nine-yard strike to pull the Red Raiders within four.

He then gave Texas Tech its first lead since the opening quarter on a three- yard pass to Danny Amendola, making the score 31-28.

UTEP tied the game in the final seconds of the third quarter with a 25-yard field goal by Jose Martinez.

Early in the fourth quarter, Harrell threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game, hitting Grant Walker for an eight-yard scoring strike.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Shannon Woods' two-yard touchdown run put the game away as the Red Raiders were able to hold on to a 45-31 victory.
