NCAA Game Summary - North Texas at Oklahoma

Final Score: North Texas 10 - Oklahoma 79

Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Freshman DeMarco Murray scored five touchdowns and redshirt freshman Sam Bradford threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns in as the eighth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners crushed North Texas 79-10 in the season opener for both programs.

Bradford finished 21-of-23 and Murray rushed for 87 yards on 17 carries for Oklahoma (1-0), which scored a touchdown on seven of its eight first half possessions. Juaqu Iglesias caught seven passes for 128 yards and Malcolm Kelly had 4 catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

"I was pleased with the overall play," said Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. "I was also pleased with the backup play. The second- and third-teamers all really played well. I have been saying all along, this team is very attentive, they are really prideful with their practice and their play."

Starting quarterback Daniel Meager went 15-of-27 for 107 yards and one interception and Casey Fitzgerald had seven catches for 125 yards and a touchdown for North Texas (0-1). Backup quarterback Giovanni Vizza went 4- of-11 for 124 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

"I just talked to my team and I told them that obviously Oklahoma is a great football team and they are very, very impressive," said North Texas head coach Todd Dodge. "When you play a great team like that you always have a chance of having a disappointment. I told my football team that you have to give credit where it's due, but part of the final score had to do with us not waving the white flag. We've got to continue executing to try to execute our offense late."

A Jermaine Gresham 15-yard touchdown catch from Bradford on the Sooners first possession capped a 4-play, 68-yard drive. The big play of the drive was a 41-yard run by Iglesias.

On its second possession, Oklahoma march 67 yards on five plays. Murray's 44- yard touchdown run capped the drive with 11:44 left in the first quarter.

Murray scored his second touchdown of the game with 3:49 to go in the first quarter on a 1-yard scamper. A 51-yard completion from Bradford to Iglesias helped set up the Sooners third score in four possessions.

With 11:39 left in the second quarter, Murray rushed into the end zone from three yards out to culminate a 12-play, 71-yard march.

Bradford connected with Kelly for a 63-yard touchdown completion with 7:49 to play in the first half.

On their next possession, a Bradford 42-yard pass to Gresham helped set up an eventual one-yard touchdown run by Murray with 3:04 to play before the intermission.

A 24-yard touchdown pass from Bradford to Kelly with 1:00 left in the half put Oklahoma up 49-0 heading to the locker room.

In the second half, Lendy Holmes intercepted a Meager pass attempt at the North Texas 24 yard line and returned it to the 20, setting up another Sooners touchdown. Murray scored his fifth touchdown of the game on a three-yard run with 13:44 to go in the third quarter.

The Mean Green took advantage of Dominqu Franks' fumble on a punt return to finally get on the board. North Texas recovered on their own 41 and went 47 yards on eight plays to set up a 29-yard field goal by Thomas Moreland.

Nic Harris then scored another Oklahoma touchdown, picking off a Vizza pass at the North Texas 25 and returning it all the way for a 63-3 lead with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, Vizza connected with Fitzgerald for a 69-yard touchdown catch for the Mean Green's first and only touchdown of the game.

Mossis Madu had a two-yard touchdown run with 13:03 left and Jaco Gutierrez had a one-yard touchdown run as well with 10:46 left in the game.
