NCAA Game Summary - Idaho at Southern California

Final Score: Idaho 10 - U-S-C 38

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - John David Booty threw three touchdowns passes as top-ranked Southern California opened its season with an easy 38-10 victory over Idaho.

Booty went 21-of-32 with 206 yards and an interception for the Trojans (1-0), who entered the season with the top-ranking for the third time in the last four years. Stafon Johnson had 12 carries for 64 yards and two scores while Vidal Hazelton had four catches for 44 yards and a touchdown for the Trojans, who picked up their 34th straight home win.

"It was a workman-like game," said USC head coach Pete Carroll. "I think we were ready to explode in the first, went quiet in the second, came out the third ready to go, and then quieted again in the fourth. But it was an opportunity to get lots of guys in, get information, see how they do and put the first game behind us."

Nathan Enderle went 16-for-34 for 155 yards and Deonte Jackson had 22 carries for 99 yards for the Vandals (0-1).

After stopping the Vandals on their first possession, the Trojans got on the board with a 10-play, 80-yard drive capped on a three-yard touchdown run from Johnson for a 7-0 lead a little over six minutes into the game.

Idaho was again stopped by USC on its ensuing possession, and after getting the ball back, the Trojans took a 14-0 lead.

On 1st-and-10 from the Idaho 48, Booty found Fred Davis across the middle on a short pass and Davis took the ball down to the Idaho 13-yard line. Three plays later, Booty hooked up with C.J. Gable on an eight-yard touchdown pass with 2:15 left in the first.

On their first possession of the second quarter, USC made it a 21-0 game when Hazelton made a leaping, one-handed catch in the end zone from one yard out with 12:24 remaining in the first half.

The Vandals got on the board in the final minute of the first half thanks to a 20-yard field goal by Tino Amancio to make it a 21-3 game heading into halftime.

USC took its first possession of the second half on a 10-play, 70-yard drive with Booty finding Stanley Havili in the end zone from four yards out for a 28-3 lead.

The Trojans extended their lead further on a one-yard touchdown run by Johnson for a 35-3 advantage with 4:05 left in the third.

David Buehler's 36-yard field goal in the final minute of the third quarter gave USC a 38-3 lead.

A one-yard touchdown run by Jayson Bird with 2:42 to play accounted for the final score.
