Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Todd Reesing completed 20-of-29 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Kansas Jayhawks to a 52-7 victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas in a non-conference battle to open the season.
Jake Sharp racked up 106 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Kansas (1-0), while teammate Marcus Henry made seven catches for 103 yards and one score.
Dan LeFevour connected on 19-of-37 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown in the ugly loss for Central Michigan (0-1).
Kansas led 14-0 after one quarter of play thanks to a pair of Reesing touchdown passes. After tossing a three-yard scoring pass to Derek Fine, Reesing and Dezmon Briscoe hooked up for a 16-yard strike.
The Jayhawks stretched their lead to 35-0 by intermission thanks to three touchdowns in the second quarter. Reesing threw two more scoring passes, a 46- yarder to Marcus Henry and a 49-yarder to Aqib Talib. In between those big plays, Raim Pendleton returned a punt 77 yards for a touchdown.
Kansas continued to pour it on in the second half. With just over five minutes gone in the third quarter, Jake Sharp reached the end zone on a three-yard run to make the score 42-0. Scott Webb added a 34-yard field goal later in the quarter.
Central Michigan finally got on the board on the first play of the fourth quarter, as LeFevour threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Bryan Anderson.
Pendleton brought the score to its final of 52-7, as the Kansas standout scored his second touchdown of the game on a 21-yard pass from Kerry Meier.
The Jayhawks racked up 538 yards of total offense in the contest.
