GAME NOTES: A set of teams trying to notch their third Big Ten win of the season collide at Camp Randall Stadium this Saturday, as the Indiana Hoosiers tussle with the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison. The Hoosiers enter the contest on a low note, as they suffered a 36-31 setback to Penn State this past weekend. It was the second straight loss by Indiana, which dipped to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in league play. The Hoosiers will now take their third crack at becoming bowl eligible, a feat they last accomplished back in 1994. As for Wisconsin, it stepped out of league play last weekend and easily defeated Northern Illinois 44-3. The win was the team's 12th straight at Camp Randal Stadium and it also made the Badgers bowl eligible for the sixth straight season. Now at 6-2 overall, Wisconsin heads back into league play, where it is an even 2-2 thus far. The Badgers lead the all-time series with Indiana, 33-18-2, and that includes a 52-17 triumph in last season's meeting in Bloomington.

The Hoosiers have done a solid job on offense this season and they enter the contest averaging 162.6 rushing ypg and 245.8 passing ypg. The balance between the run and pass has enabled this offense to produce an average of 35.4 ppg. Last weekend against a tough Penn State defense, Indiana gained 386 total yards, but that wasn't enough to overcome four turnovers in a 36-31 setback. Quarterback Kellen Lewis lost three fumbles in the contest and he was also sacked six times. Despite the consistent pressure and mistakes, Lewis turned in another strong effort, completing 30-of-48 pass attempts for 318 yards and three touchdowns. He also scored on a 56-yard run late in the fourth quarter. Lewis has been the driving force behind this offense and he has not only thrown for 1,952 yards and 19 touchdowns, but he has also rushed for a team- best 476 yards and five more scores. James Hardy has benefited from the strong arm of Lewis, as he has pulled down 45 balls for 748 yards and 11 touchdowns. Last weekend, Hardy put forth another great effort, as he caught 14 passes for 142 yards and two scores. He is now the school's all-time leader in touchdown catches with 31 for his career.

Defensively, the Hoosiers have been vulnerable at times this season, allowing 159.5 ypg on the ground and 225.6 ypg through the air. The defense, though, has been able to counteract some of those yards surrendered by making big plays, as it has recorded 20 turnovers and 34 sacks thus far. Last weekend, Indiana generated two turnovers and three sacks, but it still wasn't enough to slow down Penn State. The defense gave up 192 rushing yards and 195 passing to Penn State, which also earned 25 first downs. Geno Johnson and Will Patterson each logged 13 tackles, while Greg Middleton finished with seven stops and a fumble recovery. Middleton has been a force for the Hoosiers this season and he ranks among the top pass rushers in the nation with 9.5 sacks for the year. He also leads the team with 10.5 TFLs.

The Badgers bring a solid 29.8 ppg scoring average into the game thanks to their balanced attack which is gaining 196.3 ypg on the ground and 221.6 ypg through the air. Last weekend, Wisconsin rolled up 431 yards of total offense, including an impressive 331 on the ground, in a lopsided win over Northern Illinois. P.J. Hill headed the charge, rushing for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 21 totes. Hill is in the midst of another great season for Wisconsin and he ranks as one of the top rushers in the Big Ten with 1,009 yards and 14 total touchdowns (13 rushing). With the ground game dominating last weekend, quarterback Tyler Donovan wasn't needed all that much, as he completed 11-of-19 tosses for just 91 yards and a score. Donovan has struggled with some consistency this season, but he has still fared well in throwing for 1,711 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also ranks third on the team with 142 rushing yards and two scores. His favorite target comes in the form of Travis Beckum, who leads the team with 50 catches and 580 receiving yards. Last weekend, Beckum made just four catches for 25 yards, as the Badgers ran the ball 55 times compared to just 20 passing plays.

Wisconsin has done a solid job getting to opposing quarterbacks this season, recording 19 sacks, but it hasn't been able to generate many turnovers, forcing only seven in eight games. Overall, the defense is giving up only 343.6 total ypg and that has led opposing teams to a scoring average of 23.0 ppg. Last weekend, the Badgers put forth a tremendous effort on defense, as they limited Northern Illinois to just 99 total yards, including negative-13 on the ground. The unit even posted a pair of turnovers to go along with three sacks, as Northern Illinois' offense spent less than 21 minutes of the game on the field. Shane Carter picked off two passes and he now has four of the team's five interceptions on the season. He also ranks fourth on the team in tackles with 35.

Both teams are hungry for a Big Ten win and each has fared well on the offensive side of the ball this season. Wisconsin however, has the edge on defense and with its ground game, so expect Hill to run wild and the Badgers to come out on top.
