Ole Miss (1-3) at (15) Georgia (3-1)

GAME NOTES: The 15th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs are coming off a highly emotional win, and they will attempt to carry the momentum into Saturday's SEC clash with the Ole Miss Rebels. Since opening the season with a victory over Memphis, Ole Miss has suffered three consecutive defeats. The most recent loss occurred last weekend, as the Rebels dropped a 30-24 decision to Florida. While a loss is always disappointing, the fact that Ole Miss was able to hang tough with one of the nation's truly elite teams is promising. Georgia showed a great deal of toughness in last weekend's 26-23 road victory over Alabama in overtime. The Bulldogs are now 3-1 this season, as their only loss came to a strong South Carolina club. After Saturday's tilt, Mark Richt's club will play three in a row away from home. Georgia owns a commanding 29-12-1 lead in the all-time series with Ole Miss, and the Bulldogs won last season's meeting by a 14-9 final.

Ole Miss scored three points in the first quarter against Florida, three points in the second quarter, and were shut out in the final frame. Fortunately, the were able to post 18 points in the third quarter, including a pair of Seth Adams' touchdown passes. The two touchdowns were separated by only 2:40, and the second was a 77-yard connection with Mike Wallace. The Rebels managed only 80 rushing yards in the tilt, but Adams threw for 302 yards. Clearly, he has the ability to run the offense effectively. Overall this season, Ole Miss is averaging 22.2 ppg and 365.2 total ypg. The Rebels have failed in their attempt to establish a dominant and consistent ground attack. In fact, Ole Miss has just one rushing touchdowns, while Adams has tossed seven scoring passes.

Fans of Ole Miss knew that Florida could put up huge offense numbers, and the Gators did just that against the Rebels last week. Considering that Ole Miss surrendered 28 first downs and 507 total yards, it is hard to say anything positive about the defensive effort. Still, it should be pointed out that Florida only scored 30 points, a rather low total for an offense that can routinely reach the 50-point plateau. Opponents are scoring 30.0 ppg against Ole Miss, which is yielding 476.2 total ypg. The Rebels have allowed eight rushing touchdowns and eight passing scores, and there is obviously room for improvement against both means of attack. Ashlee Palmer paces the defense with 41 total tackles, and Jamarca Sanford is close behind with 40 stops. As for Greg Hardy, he has made seven TFLs, including three sacks.

After Alabama kicked a field goal on its first possession in overtime, Georgia decided to take a shot at the end zone. Mikey Henderson got a step on the Tide cornerback assigned to cover him, and Matthew Stafford threw a perfect pass to the left corner of the end zone. That touchdown ended the game immediately and lifted the Bulldogs to 3-1. Stafford finished with 224 passing yards, and while he did throw a pair of interceptions, two touchdown passes proved key to the victory. Stafford has completed 56.9 percent of his passes this season for 845 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. Sean Bailey leads the receivers with 16 catches, but he isn't going to scare many opponents. As for the ground attack, Knowshon Moreno has run for 342 yards and two touchdowns. He has clearly been a more explosive runner than fellow tailback Thomas Brown.

First and foremost, the Georgia defense deserves credit for keeping Alabama out of the end zone in the extra session, setting the stage for the game-winning touchdown. The Bulldogs surrendered 164 rushing yards and 185 passing yards, and while the 'Dawgs only managed one takeaway and one sack, the overall effort was solid. Opponents are scoring 17.2 ppg against Georgia, which is allowing only 282.5 total ypg. Of the six touchdowns that the Bulldogs have allowed to opposing offenses, only one has come through the air. Only four takeaways have been registered by the defense, which has posted nine sacks. Dannell Ellerbe leads Georgia with 27 total tackles.

Expect Georgia to win this game, although it won't be surprising if Ole Miss keeps things close. The Bulldogs are solid on both sides of the ball, but they are not on the level of SEC rivals Florida and LSU.
