(3) Oklahoma (4-0) at Colorado (2-2)

GAME NOTES: The third-ranked Oklahoma Sooners can seemingly do no wrong this season, and they hope to outplay the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder this weekend to pick up a key Big 12 Conference win. Oklahoma has cruised through the first four games of this season, picking up four victories by margins of 38, 41, 51 and 69 points. The most recent victory took place last weekend, as the Sooners crushed Tulsa on the road in a 62-21 final. With Texas on the docket following this weekend's clash, Oklahoma will have to resist the urge to look past Colorado. Speaking of the Buffaloes, they managed to halt a two-game skid last week with a 42-0 thrashing of Miami-Ohio. They are now 2-2 on the young season, having beaten rival Colorado State in the opener. Clearly, Colorado is a heavy home underdog this weekend. Oklahoma holds a commanding 40-16-2 advantage in the all-time series with Colorado, including a 24-3 victory over the Buffs last season. The Sooners have won the last five meetings.

Heading into this season, we knew that 6-4 freshman Sam Bradford looked the part of a stud signal caller for Oklahoma. Four games into the season, we now know that Bradford has the game to match. He has completed a whopping 78.1 percent of his passes for 1,067 yards with 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions. Juanquin Iglesias leads the club with 27 catches for 444 yards, and Malcom Kelly already has seven touchdown receptions. As for the OU ground attack, Patrick Allen is tops with 305 yards, and DeMarco Murray has reached the end zone eight times. Oklahoma is averaging 61.5 ppg and 562.2 total ypg. The offense has already scored 30 touchdowns, split evenly between the run and the pass. Allen and Murray both rushed for two touchdowns in the romp over Tulsa last time out. Also, Murray took a kickoff and raced 81 yards for a score. Bradford threw three touchdown passes in that contest.

The Oklahoma defense has been outstanding to date, as teams are only scoring 11.8 ppg and gaining 234.2 total ypg. The run defense was been tremendous, holding foes to 44.2 ypg on 1.3 ypc. A key for the Sooners is that they are limiting opponents to 21 percent success on third down conversion attempts. With 10 takeaways and 16 sacks, Oklahoma has made a wealth of big plays. Auston English has registered six TFLs, including four sacks. Curtis Lofton has been the most active member of the defense, as he has posted a team-high 42 tackles. The Sooners yielded 44 rushing yards to Tulsa last weekend. The Golden Hurricane did gain 115 yards on the ground, but 71 yards were lost, including 44 lost yards on six sacks. Still, OU surrendered three touchdowns to the Tulsa offense, a sign that there is some room for improvement.

The Colorado offense was dominant last weekend against Miami-Ohio, as the unit reached the end zone six times. Six different players scored touchdowns, and the offense racked up 33 first downs to go along with a staggering total of 634 total yards. Three players rushed for at least 90 yards, and Hugh Charles led the way with 123 yards. As for quarterback Cody Hawkins, he threw for 275 yards and a pair of touchdowns, somewhat overshadowing the fact that he was intercepted twice. The signal caller has completed 55.4 percent of his passes for 944 yards and six touchdowns with six interceptions, mediocre numbers that can certainly stand some improvement. Scott McKnights leads the receivers with 23 catches for 291 yards and two scores. As for the ground attack, the trio of Charles, Demetrius Sumler and Brian Lockridge has been productive.

The most important stat in any football game is the final score, and the Colorado defense obvious did its part against Miami-Ohio by pitching a shutout. The Buffs surrendered just six first downs and 139 total yards, a phenomenal showing by any standards. Colorado did not have a single takeaway or sack in the clash, but the overall effort was outstanding regardless. After limiting Florida State to 16 points two weeks ago, Colorado played even better against Miami-Ohio. Clearly, this defense looks improved after surrendering 28 points to Colorado State in the opener and 33 points to Arizona State the following week. Clearly, Oklahoma will provide the toughest test thus far for the Buffs, as the defense will face a powerful and balanced offensive attack.

The Boulder crowd will be tremendously supportive this weekend, but Colorado simply isn't good enough to hang with Oklahoma. The Sooners will jump on top early and never look back.
