CFL Game Summary - Montreal at Hamilton

Final Score: Montreal 38 - Hamilton 44

Hamilton, ON (Sports Network) - Quinton Porter threw for 429 yards and five touchdowns on 27-of-32 passing as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats out-gunned the Montreal Alouettes, 44-38, at Ivor Wynne Stadium.

Prechae Rodriguez caught 12 passes for 198 yards and three scores for the Tiger-Cats (3-11), who had lost six consecutive games. Earnest Jackson and Robert Pavlovic each caught a touchdown.

Montreal's Anthony Calvillo had a similarly gaudy day under center, passing for 473 yards and four TDs on 44-of-53 completions. The 44 successful passes set a new CFL record for completions in one game. He was also intercepted once as the Alouettes (9-5) had a two-game win streak snapped.

Jamel Richardson, Ben Cahoon and Brian Bratton each had a 100-yard receiving day for Montreal, with Richardson and Cahoon each having two TD catches.

Cahoon became the CFL's all-time leader in receptions among Canadian players, passing Ray Elgaard. Cahoon has 834 career catches to Elgaard's 830.

On a day that saw the teams combine for just 84 rushing yards, Hamilton took an early lead. Porter completed a 13-yard TD strike to Jackson just a few minutes into the game, and with a little more than six minutes remaining in the first quarter, Porter found the fullback Pavlovic for a one-yard scoring connection.

A Damon Duval 13-yard field goal late in the stanza put Montreal on the scoreboard, as the Tiger-Cats went into the second frame ahead 14-3.

Hamilton continued to pile on points, as a Nick Setta 25-yard kick and seven-yard TD pass from Porter to Rodriguez gave the home club a 24-3 advantage with 6:24 remaining in the half.

A pair of Duval field goals, from 40 and 37 yards away, brought the Als within 24-9 at the intermission.

Just past the midway point of the third, Montreal began its comeback in earnest. Calvillo completed touchdown passes to Cahoon and Richardson, of seven and 12 yards, respectively, to bring the Alouettes within a point.

Another Porter touchdown, of 23 yards to Rodriguez, gave Hamilton some breathing room and an eight-point edge with a little more than two minutes left in the third.

The teams traded scores early in the final quarter. Hamilton struck first, on a four-yard TD pass from Porter to Rodriguez. But Calvillo found Richardson in the end zone from six yards away, and the completion trimmed Hamilton's lead to 38-30 with 10:15 left in the game.

Neither team scored from there until Setta's 11-yard kick gave the Ticats a crucial two-possession lead. Calvillo's final TD pass, a seven-yarder to Cahoon, came with 1 1/2 minutes on the clock. Montreal was successful on a two-point conversion to draw within three, but it wasn't enough.

Setta drilled a 12-yard field goal with 30 seconds remaining to seal the win for Hamilton.
