Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Behind a career-high 34 points from Jack McClinton, the Miami Hurricanes earned a 95-93 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers in ACC action at the BankUnited Center.
McClinton put his teammates on his back during a 2:27 stretch of the second half in which he scored 14 straight points. Jimmy Graham gave the Hurricanes (20-8, 7-7 ACC) a boost with 19 points off the bench. Lance Hurdle finished with 10 points in the win.
Sean Singletary kept the Cavaliers (13-13, 3-10) in the game with a career-high 41 points to go along with nine rebounds. Laurynas Mikalauskas notched a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while fellow reserve Jamil Tucker tallied 14 points in the loss.
Virginia grabbed a 39-35 halftime lead after shooting 51.6 percent from the floor in the first half, including 5-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc.
Miami had the hot hand in the second stanza, shooting 59.4 percent from the field and knocking down 8-of-13 three-pointers. The Cavaliers went on a 9-0 run to make it a one-point game with 40 seconds to play, but Hurdle put the Hurricanes ahead by four on a three-pointer with nine seconds to play.
The lead changed hands 13 times, but the Cavaliers were not able to overcome a 15-point deficit in the final 10 minutes.
