Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Darion Anderson recorded a double-double consisting of 24 points and 10 rebounds in leading the Northern Illinois Huskies to an 88-78 win over the Akron Zips in Mid-American Conference action at Rhodes Arena.
Anderson, who shot 8-of-11 from the field on the night, added a team-best seven assists as well for the Huskies (6-17, 3-8 MAC) as they snapped a five- game losing streak. Michael Patton contributed 22 points off the bench for NIU, Ben Rand 11 points and 10 boards, while Jarvis Nichols and Shaun Logan tacked on 10 points apiece for the visitors in their first road win in 11 tries this season.
The Zips (17-7, 7-4 MAC), losers of two of their last three contests, were paced by Nick Dials with 17 points, followed by Nate Linhart and Chris McKnight with 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Northern Illinois shot a blistering 65.2 percent from the field in the first half, converting 6-of-11 chances behind the three-point line, but it was Akron that held a nine-point lead in the frame before the Huskies claimed a 40-37 edge at the break.
In the second half, NIU continued to shoot the ball well from the floor at a 64 percent clip, adding 13-of-17 at the free-throw line as it secured the rare 10-point victory.
The Huskies finished the night with an impressive 9-of-18 effort out on the perimeter, helping to offset 20 turnovers.
