Lawrenceville, NJ (Sports Network) - Josh Duell drained a three-pointer in the closing moments of regulation, lifting the Siena Saints to a thrilling 80-77 victory over the Rider Broncs in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Alumni Gym.
Duell finished 3-of-4 from long range with 14 points, as Siena (16-8, 11-3 MAAC) avenged an 89-75 home loss to Rider on February 2nd. Alex Franklin led the Saints with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Kenny Hasbrouck tallied 18 points. Ronald Moore netted 17 points and dished out nine assists for Siena, which pulled into a first place tie with Rider.
Jason Thompson headed the charge for Rider (18-7, 11-3) with a double-double that consisted of a game-high of 26 points and a school-record 24 rebounds. Ryan Thompson and Kamron Warner each chipped in with 13 points, as the Broncs saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end.
The Broncs knocked down 53.6 percent of their shots from the floor in the opening half and they carried a 38-34 lead to the break.
Siena fought back in the second half and took a 77-76 lead behind a jumper by Moore with 34 seconds remaining. With just 16 seconds left, Jason Thompson was sent to the foul line, where he made 1-of-2 attempts to tie the score, setting the stage for Duell's heroics.
The Saints shot 46.5 percent from the floor for the game and that includes an 8-of-18 effort from downtown.
