Tucson, AZ (Sports Network) - Jeff Pendergraph poured in a career-high 29 points, as the Arizona State Sun Devils rallied past the Arizona Wildcats, 59-54, in Pac-10 action at the McKale Center in Tucson.
Pendergraph made 12-of-16 shots from the floor and he pulled down eight rebounds, as the Sun Devils (15-7, 5-5 Pac-10) snapped a five-game slide. Jerren Shipp chipped in with 11 points off the bench for ASU, which swept the regular season series from the Wildcats for the first time since 1995.
Jerryd Bayless led Arizona (15-8, 5-5) and all scorers with a career-best 39 points. He went 6-of-10 from long distance and a perfect 9-of-9 at the foul line, as the Wildcats dropped their second game in a row.
Arizona used a 17-2 run to open a 22-6 lead at the midway point of the first half, but ASU responded with a 19-4 run of its own and the Wildcats held just a 32-31 edge at the break.
The Wildcats shot a dismal 30.0 percent from the field in the second half and Bayless missed a potential game-tying three-point attempt with three seconds left, as the Sun Devils escaped with the five-point win.
ASU knocked down 51.1 percent of its field goals in the game and it finished 11-of-14 at the charity stripe.
