NCAA Game Summary - Miami-Florida at Virginia Tech
Blacksburg, VA (Sports Network) - Jack McClinton scored 19 points as the Miami- Florida Hurricanes held on to defeat the Virginia Tech Hokies, 74-71, in ACC action at Cassell Coliseum.
Eddie Rios and Brian Asbury added 14 and 10 points, respectively, for the Hurricanes (16-7, 3-6 ACC) as they snapped a three-game slide and won for just the second time in the last six outings.
The Hokies (14-10, 5-5) were paced by A.D. Vassallo and his game-high 24 points in the squad's second consecutive setback. Jeff Allen made 7-of-8 shots from the field on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds, followed by J.T. Thompson who tallied 10 points in just 15 minutes of action.
Miami shot just 9-of-27 from the field in the first half, including 1-of-8 behind the three-point line, yet still led by a basket at the break, 28-26.
In the second half the Hurricanes moved out to a 10-point advantage, thanks in part to 6-of-8 beyond the arc, which was just enough to keep the team on track for the three-point victory.
Miami overcame 18 turnovers by limiting the home team to just four offensive rebounds and claiming a commanding 35-20 edge on the glass overall.
