Lawrenceville, NJ (Sports Network) - Jason Thompson registered a double-double consisting of 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds as the Rider Broncs defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles, 80-76, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at Alumni Gym.
Ryan Thompson and Harris Mansell both contributed 16 points for Rider (18-6, 11-2 MAAC) as it stretched its win streak to 10 straight games. Mike Ringgold accounted for 14 points as he made 7-of-9 shots from the field.
The Purple Eagles (14-8, 8-5), losers of two of their last three, were paced by Charron Fisher who scored a game-high 30 points and cleared 11 rebounds. Tyrone Lewis contributed 26 points on 5-of-11 from three-point range, while Stanley Hodge tallied 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the setback.
Despite shooting only 2-of-10 beyond the arc and 5-of-9 at the free-throw line in the first half, Niagara still managed to move out to a narrow 37-36 lead at the break.
In the second half the Purple Eagles continued to have trouble out on the perimeter (4-of-18) and dipped all the way down to just 34.2 percent from the field overall, allowing the home team to slip by with the four-point win.
In a game that saw eight ties and nine lead changes, Rider shot 46.4 percent from the field in recording its longest win streak since the 1983-84 campaign.
