New Rochelle, NY (Sports Network) - Gary Springer recorded a double-double consisting of 18 points and 14 rebounds as the Iona Gaels defeated the Canisius Golden Griffins, 66-59, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Hynes Athletics Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Gaels ( 10-15, 6-7 MAAC) were Dexter Gray and Milan Prodanovic with 20 and 11 points, respectively, in the team's third consecutive win.
The Griffs (4-19, 2-11), losers of two straight and five of the last six, were paced by Frank Turner with 12 points and Elton Frazier who tallied 11 before fouling out.
Canisius held an 18-15 lead midway through the first half, but the Gaels then ripped off a 15-2 run to go ahead by double digits before settling on a 32-23 advantage at the break.
In the second half Iona made a mere 32.3 percent from the field and 11-of-20 at the charity stripe, yet that was still enough for the home team to capture the seven-point triumph.
In a game that saw five ties and 12 lead changes, the Gaels dominated the paint on offense, outscoring Canisius 30-14.
